The Liberal press told us that we're supposed to hate ourselves for our successes. Apparently on our way up the food chain we failed to drag along the deadweight that Darwin taught us should be left behind, and somehow that is assumed to be wrong. I guess that violates some of the principles of mercy and goodwill that the various religions we welcome to thrive in this country promulgate, though we are required, according to the courts, to ignore those principles lest someone might think that we are promoting religion. It's all too confusing for my small mind.:confused: Possibly, just possibly, we hate what we have allowed America to become over the past 50 years. Maybe we feel that it's wrong to allow our neighbors across town to decide what color we should paint our houses, but we're too timid to speak up. Maybe we're tired of a patronistic government that claims to know better than we how to manage our lives, but we believe that our votes don't count and don't make the effort to resist. Maybe we're tired of apologizing for being the only country trying honestly, though often wrongly, to make the world a happier place. Maybe, just once, we should all turn out for a vote when an election is held, to voice our true opinions - if we have one that isn't just parroting the press - and make a difference. Nah... There I go dreaming again... Maybe, just maybe, the "Great Experiment" of Democracy is as fundamentally flawed as Marxism. Universal sufferage means that the vote and opinion of the stupidest person you have ever met has exactly the same weight as your vote. I think you make a confusion between the people and the country. I have no doubt most of american people have good intentions and sincerely believe what you wrote is true, but in my opinion there is also no doubt that US governments always put the US interests first and didn't care about making the world a happier place for non-americans.

I have no doubt most of american people have good intentions and sincerely believe what you wrote is true, but in my opinion there is also no doubt that US governments always put the US interests first and didn't care about making the world a happier place for non-americans.

With his arrogant spirit, like is shown in his comments like "Bring it on..." (a message to the Iraqi insurgency", and his desire to "spread democracy" to any oil-rich nation. Part of it is the Oil For Food scandal. I think that France was so opposed to us going into Iraq, because we would uncover their involvement in it, and embarass them, which we did. The muslim nations hating us has nothing to do with Bush. They hate us because of the effect our western liberal culture is having on their theocracies. People are begining to think more independently now, and they hate that. And, I think that many other nations envy our freedom and wealth, too.

Technically 'you' didn't. A french judges began an inquiry in 2002. This conclusion seems as far-fetched as claiming that the US invaded to cover its involvment in the scam. Both french and americans people are/were prosecuted, but I don't think in either case the scam was the reason behind both foreign policies. Oil probably is, in both cases, but not the scam itself, which is peanuts regarding what is at stake. Anyway, even if France did not oppose, China and Russia would have vetoed any resolution asking for the invasion.

European countries have freedom and wealth. Many people in Europe dislike America not just because of Bush but because of the arrogant attitude of some Americans. Some people from the USA who strike up a conversation with the locals seem to assume that everyone else wants to hear about how wonderful America is and how much better it is than the country they are visiting.
