What kind of engineering are you studying? What is your internship?

If I could offer a recommendation. I have been in the same boat, working too many hours to be able to perform in class acceptably. It led to a very bad semester. Engineering is not something that you can do well on very little sleep. Looking forward, the biggest discriminator that you will have coming out of college is your GPA. That is what will get you the interviews when you are looking for a job. My recommendation is to quit the internship and anything else that impedes your ability to get good grades in class. Max out your student loans, grants, etc. Minimize your monthly expenses. Put maximum effort into studying. If you have not allready done so, get into study groups at school. They are extremely helpful. When I did those things, everything changed. In fact, a class that I failed due to my overwork (maybe I got a D), when I retook the class, I got a A.
I'm studying computer engineering but I'm a freshmen this year, and this semester I don't even have any engineering classes, unless you count calculus... And I only have an intro computer science class next semester and everything else is GEs... I am currently a software engineering intern at Qualcomm here in San Diego. I've been working here for about 6 months now, since I graduated high school. I work about 20 hours a week Mondays Wednesdays and Friday from 12-5, but i usually work more that that... i even told myself that if my internship and school were too much that I would just quit my internship. That sounded simple and everything at the time. But after 6 months and a raise, I'm really liking those paychecks every week.... I think I'll still work for this year, since most of my classes are GE's and not major preps. Also, i could try to be a little more focused, I haven't been dedicating myself 100 percent. But definitely, I don't think i want to do this next year as a sophomore. /\ |_ E X E GG

Heck no. I live in San Diego. Born and raised, baby. :) I'm an Applied Math major here at UCSD. I'm sitting at the counter in the bottom floor of Price Center right in front of Panda Express, Wendy's, and that new Mexican food place, Tacone. I'm plugged in right next to the microwave that nobody ever uses. ;P Convinced? ;)
Picture a huge catholic cathedral. In it there's many people, including a gregorian monk choir. You know, those who sing beautifully. Then they start singing, in latin, as they always do: "Ad hominem..." -Jörgen Sigvardsson

Do you even got all the acronyms mixed up? When ever I talk about UCSB to my girlfriend I always say UCSD, and the I said UCSD I meant SDSU (i sooo sound like i'm lying, but i'm not). I don't go to UCSD I'm not Asian enough. I go to SDSU, but I wish I went to UCSD. I think i want to do graduate school there. But then again.. it's like a million dollares... /\ |_ E X E GG

 SDSU sucks. I won't hang out with you. ;) No seriously, that would be cool. What are you doing tonight? I was planning on seeing Jarhead with some friends. Want to come?

I can definitely understand the attractiveness of that internship. At the risk of giving unwanted advice here are some of my experiences... 1) Work now only if you must. Yes, the money is good, but I would hazard to guess you could get by with much less if needed. If you need to work, take only the minimum number of classes to remain in full time status. It may take longer to graduate, but you will not limit your options if it takes 5-6 years to finish school, whereas you will limit options if you have less than 3.0 GPA. 2) Work your internships full time, saving your money for when you are taking classes. When you are in school focus on school. When you are at work focus on work 3) Have fun. I went to live with some friends at the beach every summer. That was the smartest decision of my life because once you start working fulltime and get more responsibilities and family, those opportunities will be rare. Since my grades were good, my lack of internships did not hurt me at all. Bottom line: GPA is most important. After that maximize your fun within your ability to keep good grades. Work only as much as you have to, for you will be working for the rest of your life once you take the fulltime job after college.

It's looking like it might be AMC Mission Valley 20 at 6:55. Would that work for you? Or we might go at 7:45. I dunno yet. Nobody's answering their cell phones.

I think I just threw up a little in my mouth... ------- sig starts "I've heard some drivers saying, 'We're going too fast here...'. If you're not here to race, go the hell home - don't come here and grumble about going too fast. Why don't you tie a kerosene rag around your ankles so the ants won't climb up and eat your candy ass..." - Dale Earnhardt "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001
Don't take it too personally. You do know I was only joking, don't you? ;P Anna :rose: Riverblade Ltd - Software Consultancy Services Anna's Place | Tears and Laughter "Be yourself - not what others think you should be" - Marcia Graesch "Anna's just a sexy-looking lesbian tart" - A friend, trying to wind me up. It didn't work.

Thanks :). I can't understand why people voted you down for saying good conclusion. At least you're willing to change your mind if you hear a good argument...
The man who smiles when things go wrong has thought of someone he can blame it on. If you tell a man there are 300 billion stars in the universe, he'll believe you. But if you tell him a bench has just been painted, he'll have to touch it to be sure.
