HEALTH - Spasming Quadratis-Lumborum...
-
I've actually been to see chiropractors, physical therapists, neuro-surgeons, deep-tissue-masseus and now health clubs trying to get it fixed. Here's a brief definition of the problem. The muscle is seized up and has been for a very long time. The bi-product of this is that the flow of blood into and out of the muscle is greatly restricted. This results in exacerbation of the problem where-in it just makes itself worse. I know that many people here are not U.S. citizens and may be aware of other methods for *releasing* a spasming muscle. That is what lead me to post. I probably have spent (before insurance) about $250,000 on this and was just curious what other people have attempted. I'm presently spiraling back down to my previous fitness and weight which is just *AWESOME* (The awesome means I'm just excited about that. I wish I knew the code for the little dancing guy.). I imagine this will have the greatest positive impact on my discomfort. Still I was just curious to see what other people are doing. - Rex

Actually I do have a suggestion although it sounds daft until you've tried it. You've hit the nail on the head when you say it makes itself worse and there can be a low level 'feedback loop' thing like this which I had with my lower back muscles several yars ago. The thing which help to break the cycle so other treatments could help sort the peripheral problems out (heat packs, manipulation etc.) was going to see a reiki healer. The basic theory is that the various energy flows ('chi' as in Tai Chi) in the body can be disrupted by physical issues and emotional ones such as stress and this can cause the cycle of problems. The healer can tap into these and help to basically open up the flows. Yes, it sounded daft to me but a guy who worked at the same place as me was a healer and reccomended by others. I could lirterally barely hobble in and I walked out. Still with some pain and other things so sort such as distorted cartlidges but able to deal with the treatments to sort these. I don't know if it goes by the same name in the US but other things which can sort the 'chi' within you really can help. It's simple and none invasive but very effective. The one side effect is that when they unlock all this it also unlocks all the stresses and emotions that have built up so it's very emotional at the time. I only needed three sessions a couple of weeks apart. Please let me know how it goes. Elaine  The tigress is here :-D

That's a good idea. Wonder if I can find that in Idaho... I bet I can we are a lot more with-it than we used to be... Got two of the best pediatric surgeons in the northwest I *know* that much...:)

I'm looking for anyone who might be living with one of these or have some knowledge of treating the condition. I have 3 herniated discs in my back that (with periods of stress or changes in weather) can make me hurt pretty good. The only area I experience this pain is in a small muscle in my low back that has been spasming for about 8 years. Kind of stinks. It interrupts my sleep at night as it can and usually does crank up in intensity when I go to bed. Does anyone here have one of these as well? If so, have you been able to get relief and how? Other suggestions for dealing with it besides prescription drugs. SOMA can fix it right up but only if I take it every night which you cannot do (that I know of). Anyway, it's kind of a stupid question to ask here but if you have ever had this kind of pain you would understand my motivation...:^) - Rex

I hear that an NFL helmet can fix this. ;P Michael Martin Australia "I controlled my laughter and simple said "No,I am very busy,so I can't write any code for you". The moment they heard this all the smiling face turned into a sad looking face and one of them farted. So i had to leave the place as soon as possible." - Mr.Prakash 24/04/2004

You know what's funny about that? I spent 17 years playing soccer. I thought football players were total weenies that just really couldn't hang with a real sport. I believed that for 25 years. Only recently has my view changed but my view has only changed for the guys in the NFL. They are the very best American football players in the world and as such I respect them as athletes. If you knew me well you'd probably say that my head was hard enough as it is and it's probably what causes most of my problems. You'd be right. :sigh: This helmet thing is going to get funny. You got me.

I would hope the NFL players would be the best at American Football as it is the only real serious organisation of this sport in the world. Throw in the money they are paying and they would attract the good athletes. I don't disregard the NFL players as non athletes or crap athletes. The problem is you Americans think they are the greatest things ever and better than anyone else around. The crap I hear about how they would kill Rugby (Leauge and Union) players is crap. It's like saying they would kill NBA players. In the NFL game yes, but not if they were on the basketball court. Same goes for rugby. The non stop play, recycling of possession and need for constant defence would kill people used to 30 seconds of explosive play and 10 minutes of huddle action, adverts and timeoouts for coaches to slap them on the arse. The NFL is the only true one on one defense team sport I have seen (or remember). In Rugby the game is too fast, has too much lateral movement and happens in too much broken play for onr on one monster hits to happen to often, no time to line the man up and smash him. That is why many tackles are group affairs and too often one man has the offensive player by the lower before one or more players smashes him from above. That is why we have so higher percentage of ACL and PCL tears/snaps.

That's a great way to put it. While I never outright said that myself that is what I was thinking. In my opinion the greatest athletes in the world are Tour De France caliber cyclists. Guys like Lance Armstrong, Lemond, Delgado, etc... Spending all day long on a bike climbing a 110 mile stage rain, sleet or shine... That's tough. All in all comparing football to rugby is a bit like comparing regular infantry to an elite combat unit. Sure there are some things in common with overlap here and there. But when the chips fall and the job has to get done there is simply no comparison at all. Football of course being regular infantry and rugby being the elite military unit. One thing I would like to see someday though is an American Football Offensive Line have to make a stand against a Japanese Sumo-Wrestling Defensive Line. I think that would be interesting. I could be way wrong but I think that Sumo Wrestlers would just tear them a new one but hey... I'll never get to see it so no big deal I suppose. Still it would be interesting...

The Replacements starring Keanu Reeves is about the NFL players going on strike. One of the replacements bought in is a Sumo wrestler. It was a funny film and there was only the one Sumo but in the movie he played well, but I'll be stuffed if I can remember if he was Offence or Defence.
