I just found out I own at least 2 of the discs on the following list found on idiotabroad.com http://www.idiotabroad.com/2005/11/cds-affected-by-the-sony-bmg-spyware/#comments[^] List at bottom of post --> According to: http://www.tech-recipes.com/windows_tips1065.html[^] here is a simple test to see if you are infected.

    Description -
What to see if you are infected with the sony drm rootkit? This test will take you just a few seconds to do.
    Directions -
The sony rootkit hides all files starting with $sys$.

By testing for this, you can easily see if you are infected with the sony DRM rootkit.

      1. Right-click blank area of the Desktop
      2. Select New
      3. Select Text Document
      4. The name should be highlighted. Name it anything starting with $sys$ and hit enter.

            For example: $sys$blah.txt
      5. If the text document no longer appears on your desktop, then you have the rootkit installed.
      6. Sue sony, profit, etc.

You can still buy it. You just need to disable the autorun and import it into iTunes or WMP or something.

Picture a huge catholic cathedral. In it there's many people, including a gregorian monk choir. You know, those who sing beautifully. Then they start singing, in latin, as they always do: "Ad hominem..." -Jörgen Sigvardsson

You can also still buy $THING from a company that promotes eating babies - doesn't make it a good idea, though.

It's more that I don't want to support Sony's horrible business practices. I know the workarounds, I just choose not to support a company that forces me to go to such lengths to protect my system security. Josh Find a penny, pick it up, and all day long you'll have a back-ache...

No lie. Between Weezer's set and then Foo Fighters following them, it was one of the best shows I've seen in years. At least I still have the memories... Josh Find a penny, pick it up, and all day long you'll have a back-ache...

Last night I tested my computers at home that I let it autorun on. Not infected. The key is to NOT install their "player". The dvd side of the disc just has a normal dvd material on it w/ the songs in dolby digital 5.1. The cd side is fine as long as you don't let it install their "cd player".

Found on Bash.org [erno] hm. I've lost a machine.. literally _lost_. it responds to ping, it works completely, I just can't figure out where in my apartment it is.
