Get A Coder type of sites
-
Recently I came across the GetAcoder.com and some similar other websites. I would like to share some thoughts about it with you fellow CP loungers: It seems that those sites emphasize the unfair competition between western programmers and the Far East or Eastern European programmers. Example : development of a website for 300$ !!! Western (or north American programmer) would not even look at this proposal, whereas Far East programmer will gladly take this project for even less! This situation is in a consequence of unequal monetary equivalent: you can buy much more for 100$ in China then you can buy in US. Anybody has any idea how these sites could be useful for north American guys (like many of us)? What do you think about this absurd situation?

You hit the nail on the head. That's why I no longer am on Rent-A-Coder. I'm not going to spend 100 hours for a measly $10. Regards, Brigg Thorp Senior Software Engineer Timex Corporation

Yeah, they are useless! I cannot live on $0.30 per hour as someone in China can manager. There is no competition as we cannot compete unless we lived there. Some say that they do not have the skills.. What a load of .... Some may not but some do, it does not matter where you live as to your abilities, only how much you have learned. I would like to see one of these sites come to life which was focused on the only contracts in the North America and maybe that charges a listing fee. There is a ton of decent paid (still at $40 or more per hour) contract work available here in the USA if the developers and the clients could find each other. A site that would have profiles with customer feedback would be good for both sides. At this time though, it is a matter of networking and who you know. Would be nice if a site provided that :) Rocky <>< Latest Post: Time for change! Blog: www.RockyMoore.com/TheCoder/[^]

Blame it on the compiler - the compiler treats all programmers the same - it doesn't matter if the guy coding it is in India, China or the UK, it emits the same output. The only way to work around this disparity in coder charges across the world is to write an intelligent compiler that slows down or speeds up compilation time (by several hours) depending on where in the world you live. So if it takes 5 minutes to compile a block of code in the UK, the same code should take 1 hour in China, 10 minutes in Australia, 3 minutes in the US and a few milliseconds in Trivandrum. :-D
