I got all inspire by the other puzzles, so here is another one! It has two parts, the second part is much tricker. There is a snail who is climbing up a wall which is 5 feet tall. The snail spends one hour climbing, and one hour resting. When the snail is climbing, it climbs up 3 feet. When the snail is resting, it falls down 1 foot. Part 1) How long does it take for the snail to reach the top? Part 2) If the snail started from the top of the other side of the wall, how long does it take for the snail to reach the bottom? Phil

      1. 3 hours 2. Not really clear question. Does 3ft/h apply to 'climbing down' as well? Does the snail need rest for that? If so, the answer is 2h 20 min. Otherwise 1hr 40min. Dejan Petrovic

... but a simple jump form the top would do that in no time, of course;P Dejan Petrovic

I apologise for the lack of clarity. The snail does travel for one hour and rest for one hour while moving down the wall. However, 2h 20min and 1hr 40 min are both incorrect as well.

Finally we have something useful for genetic engineering. We just do not have enough flying snails! ;P Phil

Not really. Those things are quite unbreakable, especially if ground is soft. It can survice that. Dejan Petrovic

Ok, since 2:20 is wrong, and the snail can't jump, it's climbing speed and sliding speed must complement each other: 2hrs should do it. farewell goodnight last one out turn out the lights
