That was going to be my reply, but the server just didn't want my message (and I had to rush off). It's so obvious she's jealous. -- Pictures[^] from my Japan trip.

          (1) Two competing theories, no detail information. All we have is Occhams razor - but which one is simpler? At first, of course the "lucky girl" story, taking publishing houses all over the world by surprise. But this means accepting existence of the the complete "machinery" that would be required to make the "1984" version. (2) It is certainly surprising that she still exerts so much control over the business. But she's a Single Mother. How can I say that? If it's thursday, and someone tries to bulldoze down your house, It is recommendable to have a single mother handy to stop them. Without you (or her) laying down in the mud. (3) In the end, if no more information is available, it all depends on what we are willing to accept. Is it impossible to escape the Metropolian Machinery of commerce? Or can dreams still come true? (4) Footnote. A friend of a friend once made a internship for a big german publisher. Her boss was the one who rejectged "Harry Potter" publishing rights for Germany, so they finally went to the Carlsen Verlag.

We say "get a life" to each other, disappointed or jokingly. What we forget, though, is that this is possibly the most destructive advice you can give to a geek.
