Public domain or Inexpensive stock photos?

I just took a look at http://www.istockphoto.com/[^]and if you read through the content license, it appears you can download pictures for your own use, but not for templates that are for resale.:sigh: HunterSvcs - If only it would work the first time :=)

To me that would seem acceptable. I guess what they need is a non-royalty free way of doing that. Since it is only $1 to $3 per image it wouldn't be a huge burden. However, given their delivery mechanism I think it would be hard for them to control that.

I am in the process of building a bunch of web templates and in need of some graphics. I was planning on using some of the photos from my Hemera Photo Objects collection, but after reading the licensing, it is prohibited for web template distribution. Does anyone know of decent free or very inexpensive photo libraries out there that do not have these restrictive licenses? Rocky <>< Latest Post: Help Google index your site! You can try deviantART.com it's not actually a stock, but they have millions (really!) entries. Usually the authors need to be notified when you use their photos, but they don't need to be paid. ___________________________________ Tozzi is right: Gaia is getting rid of us. Actually, from what I can find, you are responsible for making copyright arranges with each and every photo you use, which may or may not include payments. stock.xchng is down at the moment but will hopefully be back up soon. The terms on each photo were set by the author; many of them were free for personal use but I remember seeing some that were free for commercial use as well. No idea whether they flat-out prohibited redistribution or left it up to the author. James

Yeah, not really easy to give credits on commerical website templates. Sure would be nice to find public domain work to use. I would think with all the digital cameras out there, we would have at least one decent public domain photo gallery. There is also the problem of model releases with many people submiting photos that do not obtain them. Sure is a lot of hassle :) Rocky <>< Latest Post: Help Google index your site! So far the only ones I can find range at above $80 per picture without the ability to modify which is not reality with website templates.
