Hi everyone, After seeing some stunning photographs of the landscapes in this country, I can't get it out of my head. I'm now thinking of visiting Iceland next year, and perhaps rent a car to explore the country and just wander around on my own with a camera. :) Are there any Icelanders in the Lounge? I'd appreciate any ideas, especially regarding the time of the year to visit. Originally I thought of April/May, but it seems I won't be able to make it, so perhaps March (which seems too soon after the Winter) or the beginning of July. So when would be the best time to visit? What's the weather like up there during March and/or July? As always, thanks in advance for any tips! Rado

I guess too, I hope that the weather would be stable during the summer as well. I've just checked the sunrise/sunset times and in July, the sunset is at 2 AM! Could be very interesting to have such a long day, but on the other hand, to have to wait for the sunset sceneries until 2 AM... :)

Hey Radoslav, didn't realize you were from CP :) I sent your Iceland comment onto the photographer, hopefully she replies to you. It seems like Iceland is good to visit all year round. But remember that it is quite northerly so you get all-day sun during summer and all-day night during winter. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Colib and ilikecameras. Sorry, Paul. That's simply not true. The whole of Iceland is just south of the northern polar circle. In Europe you'll have to go to Scandinavia or northern Russia to see the midnight sun. Regards, Haakon S.

Sorry Haakon, I was simplifying. A couple hours of sunlight during the day isn't exactly normal. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Colib and ilikecameras. K(arl) wrote: oh, and BTW, CHRISTIAN ISN'T A PARADOX, HE IS A TASMANIAN!

Sure :-D A bit of brand protection from my side. In tourist terms Northern Norway is established as the Land of the Midnight Sun. Regards, Haakon S.

The world is so small! ;) I keep checking the Lounge from time to time, that's how I found ilikecameras.

Thanks a lot! I keep watching the discussion over there as well.

Right now it seems it will be no sooner than early July, which seems like a terribly long wait to me. :sigh: But maybe it's better like that, I've just read somewhere that some of the mountain roads are closed until June after the winter. [update]As for the sunrise/sunset times, I'm quite curious to see it. A sunset at 2 AM in the summer... I'm especially curious about the lighting conditions from the photographic point of view, with the Sun low above the horizon for longer than here down south...[/update]
