If your company has done that, and you try and override that, won't that get you into trouble? They probably did that for a reason, possibly privacy and/or security. I'd suggest talking to your boss about this, if it's a small to medium size company. Maybe he'd add an extra rule to allow you certain extra privileges. If it's a big company, I don't think they'll change the rules.

i did that already and i'm waiting for his reply. moreover you know how i made my appeal? You're pretty much SOL. If your org want to block you, they'll block you. They've probably also blocked your ability to get back to your home machine to remote control it too, haven't they? RageInTheMachine9532 "...a pungent, ghastly, stinky piece of cheese!" -- The Roaming Gnome

Vivek, You might get into trouble for 'bending' the rules. You work at a fairly big company, and they might not take your transgressions very well. I suggest you don't do it. :) Cheers, Vikram.

99% of the time, they're doing this for two reasons. First, they're trying to stop the BS viruses from comming in around the virus scanners on the mail servers. The second is that they're stopping you from emailing company secrets out and getting around the scanners and filters on the outbound side. Then how does your local email work? If you're using Microsoft Exchange, then when you setup the email account, it is the Microsoft Exchange server that does the email retrieve, not the client application. Those ports you mentioned MUST be open on the server in order for you to get any email from an external source. Try it, I bet it'll work.
