I plump for "I'm dreaming of a white christmas" sung by Bing Crosby (1954). Okay, okay, I know that this thread is trivial and bound to cause peace and goodwill to spread like gravy on a hot turkey but surely it's better than yet another "my god is better than your god" argument, n'est pas? :rose:

that song doesn't mention jesus even once. it would have you think Christmas is a time in which we celebrate icy precipitation and dangerous modes of transportation, completely ignoring the real reason for Christmas. it's Christmas-haters like you and Bing Crosby who've made the world into the utter hell it is today. i hope you're happy. (this message brought to you by the festering soul of Bill O'Reilly) update: this is a joke. Cleek | Image Toolkits | Thumbnail maker -- modified at 16:00 Thursday 15th December, 2005

Has to be Fairy tale of new york[^], hands down. Its a song that seems to be about drunken wife beating, yet manages to be quite sweet and uplifting. You scumbag, you maggot You cheap lousy faggot Happy christmas your arse I pray God it’s our last Ahh, Winterval :) Ryan
O fools, awake! The rites you sacred hold Are but a cheat contrived by men of old, Who lusted after wealth and gained their lust And died in baseness—and their law is dust. al-Ma'arri (973-1057)

Was this directed at me or were you being sarcastic or did you mean to reply to fat_bastard?

He is the big guy at Fox News, and has his own prime time opinion based show. He is one of several pundits, especially at Fox, who are making a stink about the secularizatio of Christmas. I don't entirely buy into it, as Christmas is also certainly not about commercialization or pagan trees, etc. However, many schools, for example, such as the ones my children go to in the heart of the bible belt, at Christmas time will have religious symbols from all the worlds religions in the classrooms - except for those of christianity. So I think there is a valid point to be made in that regard. "Patriotism is the first refuge of a patriot." -- modified at 8:23 Thursday 15th December, 2005

As much as I hate to admit it, I'm a sucker for 'The Little Drummer Boy'. "Patriotism is the first refuge of a patriot."

Okay: means nothing to me: never heard of him. This sounds like a case of Americans believing that America is the whole world and everyone else should automatically know what you're talking about. We don't and neither do we really care. Oh, except if you don't let me in at xmas for my vacation then I'll be really pissed. What, exactly, is it that Christians have against Christianity? You don't get other 'beliefs' beating themselves up the way you lot do. Jesus must be spinning in his, well, wherever it is you think he is.

I have to go for a song by Kevin Wilson: 'Hey Santa Claus you cunt, where's my fucking bike, I've unwrapped all this other junk and there's nothing that I like' 'I wrote you a fucking letter and came to see you twice, you worn out fucking wanker you forgot my fucking bike' 'Next time I come to see ya I'm gonna punch you in the guts, and let your fucking reindeer loose and kick Rudolph in the nuts' etc Excellent stuff, and truly, an icon in our time is Mr Wilson. An underrated classic. It's about time Wogan played it on Radio 2, don't you think...? ;P Anna :rose: Currently working mostly on: Visual Lint  Anna's Place | Tears and Laughter "Be yourself - not what others think you should be" - Marcia Graesch "Anna's just a sexy-looking lesbian tart" - A friend, trying to wind me up. It didn't work.

Nope, sorry, it wasn't at all obvious. If I'd known who the character was and what he represented I would have got it. Besides, it's true we all think the world ends at the Atlantic/Pacific/Mexican border. I don't count Canada cos it's America Lite. Am I taking this too seriously? Must leave nerd-mode. Must be normal...

Those songs are very reminiscent of my child hood, driving to Bovey to get the biggest tree they had, toboggoning on Dartmoor, drinking mulled wine (yes, we did drink wine as kids), my dad shooting decorations off the christmas tree with my air rifle, snowball fights in the house, ahh, such memories... And then my dads mood would change and the whole holliday would go to shit. But, there you go, thats what you get for being the progeny of a manic depressive who drinks too much. Nunc est bibendum
