Recently one of my friends, a computer wizard, paid me a visit. As we were talking I mentioned that I had recently installed Windows on my PC, I told him how happy I was with this operating system and showed him the Windows CD. Too my astonishment and distress he threw it into my micro-wave oven and turned it on. I was upset because the CD had become precious to me, but he said: 'Do not worry, it is unharmed.' After a few minutes he took the CD out, gave it to me and said: 'Take a close look at it.' To my surprise the CD was quite cold and it seemed to have become thicker and heavier than before. At first I could not see anything, but on the inner edge of the central hole I saw an inscription, in lines finer than anything I have ever seen before. Nice one this :laugh: Really had me chuckling :-D And the uninitiated of middle earth say we programmers have no sense of humor ! Ever wonder why our tribe and our culture is not represented at all on the telly (barring Discovery & NG) ? We have lawyers, doctors, teachers, the police, repo men & for heaven's sake, even undertakers in our cables :mad: Anybody else got Joel's 'Aadvark' DVD ? Didn't really like it that much myself, thought it was too layman-ly. The DVD didn't really capture the blood, toil, sweat & tears (not to mention adrenaline & caffeine) involved in producing good code :(

have you seen BBC's "The Office"? Hilarious show IMO... anyway one of the episodes has an nework admin guy installing a firewall on one of the main character's PC... not quite a programmer - but a good laugh :laugh:

So you got The One Disc, Lord Gates' personal copy of The OS. What happened after you found out about that? I'm sure the Lord will try to get back his CD. Are you going to bring him the disc and hope for his kind protection? Or will you try and save the world from ork.exe and the viral armys?
