First of all Merry Christmas! Ok, So I finally decided to buy and iPod Video. Call me an ignorant but I haven't had an iPod or been around one yet. My question is are we limitted to iTunes for music transformation for iPod? If so it is a MAJOR flaw for me. I don't want to be limitted, especially now that I tried iTunes. If iPod = iTunes only, what other alternatives do I have? I want to have an MP3 player with capacity above 30GB and sleek like iPod... Thanks, Rob

You can play MP3s, so you don't have to rely on iTMS for your music. iTunes can also convert WMA files, but if you have any protected WMAs, you're stuffed.

        Staff Review:

Finally an iPod device plug-in for Winamp 5

Kiss iTunes goodbye. Send music to and from your iPod directly from the Winamp Media Library. Nothing could be easier.
Now with added transcoding fun for those who are adventurous :)

Found on Bash.org [erno] hm. I've lost a machine.. literally _lost_. it responds to ping, it works completely, I just can't figure out where in my apartment it is.

There are other programs that allow you to copy music to your iPod - Anapod Explorer[^] is very useful as it allows you to transfer files in both directions.

I just got a 60 GB Video iPod (Black) for my birthday/Christmas present a few days ago. I normally use iTunes for my music player anyway...but I've got DVDs that I want to put on my iPod too. So I've been using PQ DVD for iPod[^]. Out of all the converters I looked at, this one was the best.

I went out there, in search of experience To taste and to touch and to feel as much as a man can, before he repents...

Apple doesn't open their stuff up to 3rd parties, so only iPods can play the files that you get from iTunes. iPods can play MP3s though. If you want to buy music from other services, you'll need to burn the WMAs to a CD and then rip them back to MP3s (this will result in some sound degradation though). --Mike-- Visual C++ MVP  LINKS~! Step 1: Buy CDs at pawn shops or used music stores. Step 2: Rip CDs at a decent bitrate using LAME . Step 3: Copy MP3s to iPod. Not only will you save a fair bit of $$$, you'll likely get better quality than you can buy from most of the current music services. (except, you know, that Russian one... ;) )
