One of the best marketing jingles of all time. Koolaid, koolaid, tastes great! Koolaid, koolaid, can't wait. It's a sugar saturated kiddie drink that comes in a whack of flavours. And it's been around for ever, cause I used to drink it when I was a little guy growing up in the '50s. :) In university, we used to make it up with Vodka so as to get really blasted at the football and hockey games. :-D Chris Meech We're more like a hobbiest in a Home Depot drooling at all the shiny power tools, rather than a craftsman that makes the chair to an exacting level of comfort by measuring the customer's butt. Marc Clifton VB is like a toolbox, in the hands of a craftsman, you can end up with some amazing stuff, but without the skills to use it right you end up with Homer Simpson's attempt at building a barbeque or his attempt at a Spice rack. I BELIEVE that Koolaid in most of the cases on that page refer to "drinking the kool-aid" as in, "joining the mindset/cult no matter how harmful it will be to you", as in the 1970s "Jonestown" cult mass suicide/murder whereby all (most) of the members drank poisened Koolaid and expired. Kind of equivilent to this generations "taking the blue pill" as a willful, knowing blinder to ignore the bad stuff and continue on with the lemmings... I think...

The phrase "Drinking the Kool-Aid" is referring to a cult leader in the 1970's who convinced his followers to drink poison-laced grape kool aid. The writer is using the phrase "Drinking the Kool Aid" to say that he just did we he was told even though he knew it was very wrong. Here's a link (don't know how to do the clickety thing yet) http://www.gbs.sha.bw.schule.de/jim\_jones\_history.htm

like others have said, it's a drink here in the US. Drinking the Koolaid though is also frequently used as a term to mean 'fully committing or believing in something'. For instance, 'for the team to be successful the coach needs the team to really drink the koolaid on his new offensive plans'.

If my culinary understanding is correct it would be like powdered Kia-Ora only in many more flavors. :) I do not mind getting old. It beats all the other options that can think of.

Kool-aid is a drink that combines a little bit of fake coloring and artificial flavors with a ton of sugar. You drink flavors - you drink colors. Even kids when asked "What kind of Kool-Aid do you like best" Will say "The red one" or "The orange one". Jim Jones used Kool-aid in the mass suicide at Jonestown and "drinking the Kool-aid" in that context is probably a nod to letting go of your inhibitions and accepting the fate that will befall you.

We were never allowed to have Koolaid when I was a kid. My dad was on a carrier in WWII and they bought 55-gallon drums of the stuff to clean the flight deck. He always told us that as long as he's paying the dentist bills, we're not having Koolaid.:-D Some people think of it as a six-pack; I consider it more of a support group.
