External Hard Drives
-
I'm planning to get one, short on budget so looking for a 80 or 120GB ones. I'm looking for a USB 2/Firewire drive through which you can boot. So far Maxtor One touch seems to be promising, any comments on whether its good / bad or should I be considering other choices. The BIOS on my pc to my knowledge has the option of booting from CD/DVD Drives, but not sure if it would updates if I'd want to boot from external drives ..

I am unshure for FireWire but booting from USB is impossible(USB bus is resetted during bus scan Raymon Chenn [^] has blogged about this once). I assume FireWire is also impossible Regards Rutger

I have a 160GB Maxtor Drive in an ADS Tech Drive Kit[^]. It's USB 2.0 and because the kit comes without a drive, you can choose whichever size/make you want. Works great (although I've never needed to boot from it - don't know if that would work). I bought all from Costco in Canada - Drive Kit $79 CAD, Drive $179 CAD. Wound up being cheaper than buying an external drive. Hope this helps. Drew.
