"Somewhere in Germany is a baby Superman, born in Berlin with bulging arm and leg muscles. Not yet 5, he can hold 7-pound weights with arms extended, something many adults cannot do. He has muscles twice the size of other children his age and half their body fat. DNA testing showed why: The boy has a genetic mutation that boosts muscle growth. The discovery, reported in today's New England Journal of Medicine, has given researchers knowledge that could lead to breakthrough therapies for muscular dystrophy and other diseases, perhaps even for diabetes and obesity. The potential treatments, involving myostatin, a protein that controls muscle growth, also could have a dark side, giving athletes another illicit chemical means to boost their performance. Some people see things as shades of gray, I see them as black and white. I believe naked is naked - the context of the nudity makes little difference in my eyes. Besides, I can't think of the first reason why they'd need to show the kid naked anyway; I don't need to see his tush to notice the development of his legs. Jeremy Falcon

I just assume that the picture was taken in Germany (where the bys nudity is usually not an issue), and your news source de gusto simply took the image without thinking much about it. And putting a black bar over certain parts of it would've been very weird (at least for me). The sociallly accepted limit here is about pre school age 4, at my guess. But the Europe, America social difference thing is massive IMHO. Here often we think Americans are similar socially because we speak the same basic language, but it's far from the truth. I think we are way more similar to Europe than the USA. OFten things like the Janet Jackson, or Bill Clinton controversities really drive the point home. Regardz Colin J Davies

Jeremy Falcon wrote: my culture has taught me to believe something way different when it comes to nudity This confuses me. You were born naked! You did not come into this world fully clothed. If you did then you are abnormal. This attitude reminds me of the first time I went to the USA. We went to visit my aunt (who had married an American) and after a long flight, then a four hour drive my dad was delighted to find out my aunt had a large swimming pool (for a private pool in their garden, it was maybe 10 to 15 metres in length) and went to change into his swimming trunks. Well, his Speedos aparently didn't play well and my aunt hissed at him to wear something more appropriate. By American standards he didn't have anything more appropriate.

I have no idea what you're talking about. My knowledge of the human body is limited to the names of a couple of bones I've broken in the past. :) "I believe I referred to her personality as a potential science exhibit." - Elaine, about Ellen, in "The Dog"
