Mr.Prakash wrote: They say quiting smoking would make me gain weight, is it true I know a few people who quit smoking. Some gained weight, some didn't. Of those that did gain weight they admitted that the reason they did so was because they ate more crappy fast food to help them get over the cravings. So, as far as I['m concerned... it doesn't make you put on more weight. Eating more food does. Regards, Brian Dela :-) http://www.briandela.com IE 6 required.

I think you need to see a doctor, Mr. Prakash. You’ve got GFTMLJ syndrome (Girl-Friend-Treat-Me-Like-Jelly) ;P Just kidding. Quitting smoking was cool of you. I do smoke myself, but only occasionally and I don’t take the tobacco smoke as deep into my lungs as regular smokers do, so chances of Cancer are reduced compared to regular smokers. But for the life of me, I can’t figure out why you quit drinking, unless you were a thorough alcoholic. Casual drinking is not a risk to health and I believe I’ve read versions that state that it’s actually good for health and reduces chances of heart failure.

Don't try to justify it!!! It's a terrible habbit and not only bad for your own health but also bad for those around you. Passive smoking does kill. The smoking ban in all work places (including bars, restaurants etc) was the best thing that the current Irish government has done in their years of power :-D The medical profession has already reported a massive drop in the number of people comming into hospitals/medical practices with coughs, lung problems, etc and it's only been 5 months since the ban came into effect. In the long term they expect it will increase the average life expectancy by around 3-4 years (which is actually massive considering that only a small number of the population smoke)... and Ireland already has one of the highest life expectancies in the developed world (2nd highest I think :-)) Regards, Brian Dela :-) http://www.briandela.com IE 6 required.

Muscle doesn't consume anything, unless you use it. Fat cells (adipose tissue) store calories that you consume but don't use, but those calories are available to provide the energy required to construct new muscle tissue from proteins that you consume. Good going! Takes a lot of effort for sure! My sister used Lemon Drops. I know when I quit smoking back at August 22,1989 I put on 75 lbs before I figured out what was going on. There were problem times but the worse had to be the after meal smoke. It seemed like the meal was never over :) The Lemon Drops (candy) can really help if you put some in your pocket and use them when you feel the urge to smoke. Well, just to one up you on up-to-date-ness recent studies all show that it's a fallacy that people don't get enough to drink. Until recently it was assumed that people should drink something like 7 glasses of water a day however it's been shown now that drinking and eating anything that contains water is sufficient and beliefs like the one that drinking coffee dehydrates have been proven to be completely wrong. Actually people tend to get exactly the amount of water they need naturally as their bodies will ensure that on their own unless stuck in a desert with no food or water or something. The reason to drink more water than usual when you quit smoking and excercise more is that it helps to more quickly deplete the smoking toxins that are stored in the body fat etc and probably more importantly both cause a direct net calming effect in emotional state which is critical when you quit smoking because for most people it's about the most stress they will ever face in their life.
