My company is in the research phase of developing a large medical information management system. Because I know I can't do all of the development myself, I was curious. How would I go about contracting programmers to help with the development, knowing that until the product is sold there are no funds for payment? Any advice would be helpfull. By definition, a contract programmer charges by time and/or project. You should do as Ravi said, and get an investor (or three) who will put up the money to pay for the development. Either that or you could try to get programmers to come in as partners, not contractors. Although that is probably not going to be that easy to do as people have to put food on the table.

Thanks PJ. I've been looking into corporate investors. I'm going to have quite a bit more than a plan, and enthusiasm to get quality money. Hopefully, after my research is done, I can put together something that someone may take notice of. Thanks again, Frank "Keyboard Error - Press F1 to Continue"

Do you have a client? If so, it sounds more like you need to look for a partner, or partners to invest and take part.
