When I posted the my first letter about Dundas I was angry, angry because I, find a lot of Dundas products superior in functionality compared to other products in the same category. Sorry too, because with a little information and structure in their customer support, the problem would never have been posted. I´m looking forward to Troy Marchand´s arrival, I find his letter positive, and hope that he will change the way they handle customer support. I like to say, that I use the following libraries regulary Ultimate Grid Hyperview studio Dundas TCP/IP and in every project of mine I use code from UToolBox. All libraries are very impressive regarding functionality, with some functionality I havn´t found elsewhere. My advice to Troy Marchand is: We all like to pay for what we get. Advertise with support and update options. Updated FAQ´s on the net Service packs for download Updated error descriptions, also not resolved items on the net Make lots of information, use your own customers You have to make these registrations anyway, and nobody has to resolve problems already registed. I know the problem with beta-testers and responce. But with some selection I'm sure you can get the right people among your users. Good luck Jørgen Granborg Denmark :)

I have been VERY IMPRESSED with the Dundas classes I've used. The one time I contacted technical support early this year, someone called back the same day and he was very helpful. Maybe I received better than normal response because I registered under my Customers highly recognizable name (since they paid for it. But, I did notice the lack of new classes and decrease in useful info on their Web Site so we did not renew the Support Contract. A major problem in my project was the restrictions the "CORPORATE DESKTOP POLICE" put on the software, such as no Registry Updates, major DLL limitations, and so on. The use of Dundas Classes compiled in with our MFC Code rather than OCXs (or whatever M$ is calling Active-X Components this week) proved to be a life saver and saved MUCH time. Hopefully Dundas will get the Support Issues worked out, because I do like the quality of the products we used (Ultimate ToolKit and Grid).

John, actually the technical support staff at Dundas tries to treat each client as equals, which means each and every one is important. Unless there is an 'over-load' of technical incidents. Email questions are usually answered within a couple hours (if during business hours). For phone support, there is no hold time... 80% of all support calls go directly to a support person, the rest are asked to leave contact information so we can get back to you ASAP (this way you can continue your work instead of waiting on the phone). If for some reason you do not get this level of service, please let us know. As for the toolbox product, the feedback that we received from clients indicated that very few clients were interested in the new classes, so the decision to drop this extra development was made. However, a new update to the product will be out in Mid-September, which includes many bug fixes, MFC7 compatibility, plus some new features. The Grid product is also going through the same update process, for the same time frame.

The updates sound good. I'll be looking forward to them. As I implied in last post, I am a Dundas supporter and will buy the products again if needed for a new customer. Due to the time saved with Ultimate ToolBox classes, that project was on time with additional features. Customer very happy. The NT Service Classes and Threading Engine Class were life savers as I was not experienced in coding for either. Best of Luck in your new position and thanks for the feedback.:-D

Do you know what they've done in MFC 7.0? Are you allowed to discuss it?

Well, since Beta 2 has been released I can let you know some stuff. Since I do not know everything that has changed I will just give you an overview. 1. Message routing/mapping has been changed. So, odds are if you do anything more than intercept WM_COMMAND messages it will probably break your code. Why they changed how the messaging system works is beyond me! 2. Some of the structures used within MFC have been changed. Some have had their members removed, other have had members added, and some even do not even exist anymore. So if you use any of these you will probably have a problem. I do not have a complete list yet, but I know there are a few. 3. If you use any of the "MFC internals", your code will probably need some recoding. So, if your program only uses the most common/basic MFC classes/functionality it will mostlikely work. Otherwise you are in for some code changes. For example ... about 35% of the classes in Ultimate Toolbox will require minor to major rewriting. However Ultimate Grid works perfectly with no changes. Hope this helps
