EOS 300D...
-
After thinking about it for a while I have finally decided to treat myself to the EOS 300D digital SLR camera. The decission was mostly based on the fact that I used to own a "regular" EOS 300 and I can use it's lenses on the 300D. I have to say WOW. What a great camera. The look of the camera is so so but it does take great pictures if you know what you are doing (which I do not, yet...) Wednesday I'm off to Kenya for a short vacation including some safari trips. I hope to return with a couple of good pictures. Any tips? Enjoy, Jan We are the all singing, all dancing crap of the world. - Tyler Durden

Nice. I had the 300 before caving in and upgrading to the 10D. Both are amazing camera's. Enjoy! Jan van den Baard wrote: Any tips? Remember to take the lens cap off. :P cheers, Chris Maunder

Awesome! What telephoto lenses do you have? A couple of tips - take some kind of beanbag or a couple of cushion covers you can fill with rice/beans when you get there to rest your lenses on. Getting out of the vehicle to shoot wild lions from a tripod is never advisable ;) Also, take a circ polariser for your wide angle, and don't be afraid to use it! Don't forget a reliable alarm clock for the safari's - your best sightings will be before 10am and after 4pm. One of my favourite sayings is "a good alarm clock is the most important piece of modern technology for great photo's" :) Lastly, have a ball and make sure to get us drooling with envy with your shots upon your return!

I currently have the standard 18-55mm lens which came with the camera (I bought the set) and a 75-300mm from the "old" EOS 300. With a factor of 1.6 this should be more than enough to shoot a couple of good pictures from a "safe" distance. I would never have thought of that. Thanks! Megan Forbes wrote: Also, take a circ polariser for your wide angle, and don't be afraid to use it! One of my favourite sayings is "a good alarm clock is the most important piece of modern technology for great photo's" Luckely I do have a circular polariser. I used it before and I must say when used properly it can make a world of difference. When I get back I will see if I can put together a web page with some of the results. Congrats! I have a 300D as well (I actually bought Chris' when he upgraded) and I love the thing too. As we speak I'm printing out about 30 prints on the Canon i9900 I bought just after buying the Camera. I'm very impressed with the whole setup. David
