I just finished Doom 3. The graphics were great but other than that it was a big disappointment. I had heard they hired a professional writer to help me them with the story. But there wasn't really story. Inthe game to begin with. Level design is awful...just so plain that it gets repetitious after playing the game. The graphic engine has great potentials I hope we see some good titles in the future, maybe Quake IV? Kudos to John Carmack for the engine, boo to the rest :) Just joking...

I haven't finished it yet but was thinking of posting my take on it anyway so here goes. Graphics :- Awesome. Single Player :- Excellent though does get a bit repetitive in that by now I just know that somethings gonna jump out at me the moment I'm distracted by something else. Level Design :- Really Good the machines and stuff that are going on all around and the attention to detail is amazing let alone the fact that it actually works. Probably the most believable environment in a game so far. Though I do think that even an uptight company would have a few more human habitable rest areas etc. Possibly a bit too mechanical. Mulitplayer :- sucks donkey balls. O.K. I know it's supposed to be a single player game but it ships with multiplayer and I really really wish it didn't. When it works the deathmatch is brilliant but it mostly just doesn't work. I mean doesn't work in the sense that it doesn;t work as a game rather than mechanically here. The problem is first of all the interface. For some reason ID can create the most graphically awesome game ever yet they appear completely incapable of sorting strings and numbers. Try sorting the multiplayer menu by ping etc and you'll see what I mean. Select no password and don't show full servers in the filters and half the games that you try to join will request a password and or tell you the servers full. The pings that are reported in the browser don't seem to have much bearing on the ping you're gonna get in the game anyway. You end up in the situation where you are constantly joining home run servers where somebody has a really low ping and you play lowest ping wins because the person with the lowest ping can just run around wasting everyone else until the get bored and go. The real shame is that when you do eventually get to a server where people have a roughly equal ping it's brilliant because people have to play it properly or they just get wasted if they try the running around like an idiot routine. Scariest Moment :- In a crawl space, flickering lights all around. I'm looking at some armour shards and ammo on the floor in front of me thinking this is an id game as soom as I pick that up somethings gonna jump out at me. I'd better be ready. I take a step towards it and get jumped on by an imp or something, dunno didn't see it very well and was firing in blind panic. pseudonym67 My Articles[

So far I've killed two of the pinky demons but I haven't had a good look at them yet. They're sort of round ish, with teeth. pseudonym67 My Articles[^] "They say there are strangers who threaten us, In our immigrants and infidels. About midway through the game I kept thinking how much the storyline was like the movie Event Horizon[^]. In case you haven't seen it (and I don't recommend it because it wasn't a very good movie), the storyline of the movie is that someone creates what is essentially a teleportation device (the first of it's kind) to allow interplanetary travel. The first ship of it's kind is is called the "Event Horizon", and when it returns from it's jump no one on the ship is responding so a second crew is sent to check out the situation. Instead of travelling to another point in our universe, ship had traveled to hell and back. The original crew has been slaughtered. The creator of the teleportation device (who is along with the second crew) goes crazy. These are the parallels I saw with the Doom 3 plot: a "first of it's kind" teleportation device goes awry and instead of travelling to another location in our universe, it teleports to hell; people are slaughtered when this happens (in Doom 3 and Event Horizon there are dead bodies everywhere and the walls are covered with blood); people are experiencing what appear to be hallucinations and hear disembodied voices; the creator of the teleportation device goes crazy and tries to take everyone into hell (in Event Horizon, the teleportation creator tries to take the second crew to hell; in Doom 3 he tries to bring hell to earth). Here's[^] a picture from the movie that could looks like it could be in Doom 3. ----------------------------------------------------- Bush To Iraqi Militants: 'Please Stop Bringing It On' - The Onion "Moore's prominent presence in the news brings to light some serious questions, such as 'Can't he at least try to look presentable?'" - The Onion
