Although your question is very vague, I think I recognize the problem. I, too, have found it impossible to create a new website or project using VB.Net 2003. The problem appears to be a permissions issue, not a VB.Net error, but IIS refuses to provide any meaningful clues. Many hours of searching the MS website and Knowledge Base led me only to an endless loop of tantalizing clues and circular references that fixed nothing. In the end I gave up after wasting weeks trying to chase the problem down, and I created a site on IIS manually. VB.Net then had no trouble opening it and allowing me to develop content. Since you're very new to ASP.Net, check out www.asp.net[^] for a wealth of free information and sample code. There's also a free development tool, the ASP.Net Web Matrix, that you can download and use to create ASP.Net websites. It has no problem creating new sites, unlike it's big brother, VB.Net. :-D [EDIT] I found a workaround this morning, having revisited the problem for the first time in months. In Administrative Tools/Internet Services Manager, create a new virtual folder in wwwroot and share it. Fire up VB.Net and create a new web project, but when the wizard asks for a location, ignore the default it selects and use the browse button to navigate to your new virtual directory. Select it and continue, and you should be up and running. This bypasses VB's attempts to create a new site (which I can't make work despite granting full access to every user in the known universe), and let's you get on with development.:-) BTW, if this isn't the issue you're trying to fix, please repost with detailed information about what exactly you are doing when this error appears. 500-series errors are IIS specific, and most are quite vague. Error 500 is a catchall that tells you nothing about what the problem really is, so you have to dig deeper. Event Viewer should contain a more detailed description. I am quite new to ASP.NET too, I had the same problem as you 500, I have tried everything, I unchecked the Show user friendly error messages checkbox (something like this) in Options of IExplorer. Although I wasn't able to find any solution - I hadn't many problems with complete reinstallation, so I did it, installed it (in this order: 1. IIS, 2. MS VS .NET, 3. MSDE) and fortunately it worked (and works) well. I don't know the behavior of my problem, maybe it could be Frontpage XP installed - now I have no FP and it is okay?
