"In the City of God there will be a great thunder, Two brothers torn apart by Chaos, while the fortress endures, the great leader will succumb" , "The third big war will begin when the big city is burning" - Nostradamus 1654
John, This is a particularly bad translation of one of the quatrains (not 1654 - there is no such number). And, it fails to fit yesterdays events terribly well (why would NY be the "City of God", and what is "the Fortres" and the "great leader", and if Nostradamus could really see this event, why would he not refer to "two towers", rather than "two brothers" (although, in the original French it's not really two brothers either!!). Please, this is a crazy enough time without introducing/promoting such rubbish. To borrow from Monty Python - "Nostradamus is no psychic, he's just a naughty boy.". I'd rather see CodeProject embrace Linux and Java (!!!) than waste anymore bandwidth on this garbage. The WTC is real, 300 dead firefighters is real, Nostradamus is a waste of space!

Either this did predict the events of yesterday or it did not. If it did not then ... so what. If it did then it implies that all destiny is pre-ordained and none of us truly has the ability to act or think independently. Therefore the logical conclusion is that we are all automotons playing out a pre-programmed act . Believe that if you wish , if it gives you some crumb of comfort to think that whatever you do or say is pre-programmed go ahead. But be aware , that implies that the bastards who carried out the atrocities were similarly pre-programmed . Complete and utter tosh ! Free will does exist , beleive in the soothsayers demands that free will does not exist.
I can't agree more Andrew. I don't believe that a prophecy from an individual carries any weight by comparison with one from God (the difficulty of course is when you can't tell them apart). Even then, Jesus went out of His way to fulfill prophecies made in the Old Testament - they didn't happen by themselves. A consequence of the free will we have as God's children is the abiliity to make our own mistakes. If we didn't have free will, then everything that happened would be because God willed it. I don't and can't believe that, and I suspect that most people would agree, regardless of their faith. Andy Metcalfe - Sonardyne International Ltd

Yeah, people have been looking at all the numbers and Nostradamus stuff. Just like bad science, it is easy to get the facts to fit what you are after to show a connection to. Given that elements of the attack were probably fanning the fires in the Nostradamus usenet group, it is safe to assume that this is part of the terror element and hysteria that they are trying to generate. Nostradamus is like a bad psychic. Given enough events, sooner or later you will get a fluke match. http://www.randi.org/jr/9-6-1999.html Let us stick to facts and stay away from speculation about a deeper meaning. That is just buying into their attempt at terror. Tim Smith Descartes Systems Sciences, Inc.
Amen to that Tim. We should all leave the bad science to the fanatics. I remember when that whole Bible Code "fact" came out, pure tripe (no offense meant to tripe lovers the world over). All of this Nostradamus stuff is purely interpretations of an ancient text. As we all know with interpretations the interpreter puts in their own thoughts to make it all fit nicely together. We can see what we want to see in whatever we see. regards, Paul Watson Cape Town, South Africa e: paulmwatson@email.com w: vergen.org

Free will, blah blah blah... A translation/interpretation (no matter how good/bad/twisted the translation is) for a 400-year-old text carries just as much weight as anything else that's been posted in the last two days. Don't get carried away guys - I got that in an email and decided I'd share it.

As for the quatraine number, I was merely guessing. > And, it fails to fit yesterdays events terribly well (why would NY be the "City of God"), Hell, I dunno. Maybe in his vision, he saw all the pretty lights and figured it must be some majestic city. > and what is "the Fortress" The Pentagon > and the "great leader", Who knows which "great leader is being mentioned? > and if Nostradamus could really see this event, why would he not refer to > "two towers", rather than "two brothers" (although, in the original French > it's not really two brothers either!!). Hell, I dunno. Why didn't he just refer to them as two dildos? Whether or not Nostradamus was for real is quite beyond our ability to verify. If you think that quatraine was stretching it, wait until someone finds a reference to this attack in "the bible code".

..."Monty Python - "Nostradamus is no psychic, he's just a naughty boy"... He does not deserve the sacred gourd... It's the sacred sandal you imbecile. Gourd SANDAL! GOURD! *throws sandal at the sacred gourd before realising what he has done* I'll bet Nostradamus did not predict Monty Python :-D ..."I'd rather see CodeProject embrace Linux and Java (!!!)"... I'll bet, once again, Nostradamus started to write that down but then thought "mon a'mi! what am I thinking, how stupid!" before scratching it out. :-D *All in good fun you realise, no harm meant (tm) regards, Paul Watson Cape Town, South Africa e: paulmwatson@email.com w: vergen.org

That isn't the point John. The point is that the facts can ALWAYS be adjusted and interpreted to fit the needs. Take the flight numbers. I have seen an endless stream of crap about the significant meaning. Well, I would bet that if everyone here at code project looked at the flight numbers, they can be manipulated to make their birthday. OMG, THEY WERE AFTER YOU!!!! FUD! ah crap! I was going to ask you whether I could borrow your copy of Nostradamus's visions (hey doesn't Bill Gates have visions? hmmm) and also ask for your help translating it... ;P Seems like everyone and their cousin is getting that daft email. I first read it on iol.co.za and then three friends all sent it to me. I happily re-educated them on the reply  ..."for a 400-year-old text carries just as much weight as anything else that's been posted in the last two days"... Jeesh you mean you didn't take our finger pointing as fact? *curls up in a dark corner and never ever says another word again* (stop wishing for that ;) ) regards, Paul Watson Cape Town, South Africa e: paulmwatson@email.com w: vergen.org

On a day like this, I think the following makes as much sense as anything else I've seen or read... "blessed are the cheesemakers.." (obviousy it's not meant to be taken literally - it refers to any makers of dairy products) And if you want to see how quick to chase a buck the 'psychic industry' can be, look at "http://www.sylvia.org" - this famous 'psychic' somehow managed to miss the WTC event, but in the 24 hours since the event has added a popup to the "What's New" part of her site that lets us know the culprit (Osama bin Laden - not exactly an original guess!), the organisation (the much known "Triad of Jordan"), and the 'weapon' (the dreaded "Z" bomb). And while your're reading this, don't forget to book your $4000 tickets for a 'sacred journey' to Greece and Turkey!! Now THATS why I get pissed with Psychic bullsh*

Not that I put much faith in this stuff... (None at all actually) But the Fortress could well be the Pentagon (it's still there, mostly.. it endures), the great leader could be Bin Laden, and the City of God, well... that could be a bad translation... somethign like "In the greatest city" or something.. Yeah, i'm pulling this out of my ass, but hey.. denying it based on false interpretations is just as bad as believing in it based on false interpretations.

apparently according to http://www.nostradamus-repository.org/search/index.htm nostradamus didn't make that prophecy, it was made up by a guy at http://www.ed.brocku.ca/~nmarshal/nostradamus.htm Senior Test Engineer GLI Australia www.gli.com.au
