CNN's footage on how Palestinian were celeberating the attack on US is completly false. At first it disturbed me that people were celeberating this kind of thing. Then i read in a newspaper that they were also donating blood which contradicts. Guess What ? CNN used old footage of Palestianian celebrating in 1991 after the Kuwaiti invasion. I can't believe an organization such as CNN would do this. Here is the link to the proof.

If that is the case, why is Yasser Arafat silent and not denying the celebrations took place. Very confusing to me. - Thomas

Yasser Arafat immediately began damage control and started collecting copies of the celebrations. I guess he has a time machine too. Tim Smith Descartes Systems Sciences, Inc.

The fact that some Palestineans have donated blood does not contradict the fact that some Palestineans were celebrating the disaster. I'm sure Palestineans have divergent opinions on the US, just as we have. I'm a strong supporter of Palestine, but do not condone this attack.

This is unfortunately a very common media problem - since visual media like CNN need pictures, they often re-run previous footage if they have no 'current' footage available. This is wrong, and they shouldn't do it, but you'd be surprised just how often it happens. However, that doesn't meant the event being reported didn't happen - just that they had no convenient footage, so they 'cheated'. There seems to be no disputing the fact that some percentage of Palestinians (5%? - 95%? - don't ask me how many, I wasn't there!) did indeed celebrate the WTC tragedy. This has been verified by several sources I have seen, and I have heard at least one Palestinian 'spokesperson' arguing that the actions of some should not be interpreted as being the actions of all. It seems clear that both the following statements are true: 1. Palestinian civilians celebrated in the streets after the terrorist attack on the WTC in 2001. 2. CNN have been caught using file footage of Palestinians celebrating in 1991. Neither of these events is acceptable, but I'm sure there are many people who will attempt to justify both actions in their own ways.

http://www.mostnewyork.com/manual/news/Attack/editorial.asp Look for the heading: "Arafat Muzzles the Media" What CNN did sucks, but it still doesn't change the fact that the events did happen, there is video tape, and Arafat isn't allowing them to be broadcast. Hi Hassan, There was and is widespread resentment of US policies among Palestinians. I guess a few people must have reacted that way before fully realizing the gravity of the situation. No one is blaming Palestinians for anytthing. This is a non-issue. Palestinians made a great gesture by donating blood. Note: This is more or less like a few Americans acting with hate against the Arab Americans. It is these few that cause most of the problems. I think Yasser Arafat clarified the official palestinian position, but he did not deny the celebrations yet! There are many Palestinians groups that are not under Arafat. - Thomas

He definitely does. The AP correspondents that filmed that were arrested (but then released) by the Palestinian police. I don't think thi happens every day in Palestine so the authorities may not be aware of this.

Hassan, I really don't know much about you, but I assume that a/ You are male b/ You really are about 14 c/ The views you expressed as 'Sarah' are your own. In that case, you're a young man with a lot to learn who obviously has strong one dimensional opinions of the whole Middle East situation. It may shock you to learn that when Time runs a story on George Bush, they won't always use a photo they shot that week. You can tell if a womens magazine wants to deify or crucify a celebrity by the type of shot they used ( they have been using ugly shots of Tom Cruise and nice ones of Nicole Kidman for example ). Use of stock photos is a pretty standard thing, and I wasn't surprised at your post insofar as my first thought when I saw the footage at hand was 'how did they get that and survive'. I must say I am very disapponted that you are dumb enough to use the word 'proof' in connection with a link that simply has someone claiming what you want to believe. Here is one of many links I found refuting the story you are spreading, but if it's right or wrong makes no difference. You know in Russia when people were starving under Stalin, they would all say 'if only Stalin knew what is happening here'. I'm not making a parallel, I agree with others here, the acts of a few do not reflect the majority, nor do they reflect on the view of the countries leader. I just want to make a side point about people thinking that a leader does not know something based on their assumptions about him. Thanx for the link Christian - perhaps I was too quick to believe that CNN had used file footage. Maybe they did, maybe they didn't - I guess I find it easy to believe that the media takes far too many 'liberties' with the details of stories, since they have been caught at it so many times in the past. I'll wait and see on this one. The real point though, which I think everybody but Hassan seems to grasp, is that the event (ce;ebrating Palestinians) happened, independant of whether CNN used current or archive footage to report it.

Finally someone wrote that. I was waiting for it to be brought up. It seems that most people beleive they were celebrating the fact that thousands of people where killed, which I highly doubt, especially considering the diversity of the victims nationalities. I think it is more likely they were celebrating the fact that America finally got what it gives out. (Note: I mean this from their point of view, not ours.) David Wulff dwulff@battleaxesoftware.com

BTW, Hassan, how do *you* feel about it? I mean, on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being really sad and 10 being really happy about it. Further, as I assume that you are in fact Islamic and have some insight on the issue from that perspective, if we get every single "terrorist" in the Middle East, how long do you believe it will take to replace them? My personal guess is about 6 months, but I suppose if we do a good enough job it might take five years. What do you think? "I never met anyone I didn't like" Will Rogers.
