There are major differences both historical ( the national league was started in 1876 and the American in 1900 ) and in the style of play. The national league is defensive in nature while the American league is offesive. All the real hitters are in the American league. All the real weasels are in the National league ( which is composed of a bunch of real old players with not enough talent to play in the American league ). National League teams sneak out of town in the middle of the night ( Dodgers ) and all the r4eall great players are in the American league ( Ruth and Maris and Mantle and Whitey and Moose and .. wait those are all yankees :). Oh well how can you expect a hockey person to grasp the subtle but acute differences in the two. :) Richard "Under certain circumstances, profanity provides a relief denied even to prayer --Mark Twain (1835 - 1910)
 I just thought it was odd that you'd cheer for a team you dont like, simply because they're in a league you like. In the NHL, the style of play between the East and the West is rather significant, with mostly Western teams being faster paced and more aggresive with lots of energy and excitement, and the Eastern teams having a real snooze-style of play where you bore your opponents (and fans) to death. (Can you guess which division my favorite team is in? :-D ) But even then, I'd still wouldnt cheer for the Western team simply because they're in the West. Regardless, it shows you how hockey-starved I am, that's I'm watching baseball :-D ('cept the NYY-BOS series: I watch those whenever I can because they really do hate each other!) Thanks for the info though: I was always curious about why the Jays are in the AL and the Expos *were* :(( in the NL. The kindest thing you can do for a stupid person, and for the gene pool, is to let him expire of his own dumb choices.
