I have a fair number of Wolf Spiders running around my yard as well as a Praying Mantis which has claimed the back patio as his territory. This morning I woke up a saw one of the Wolf Spiders (about 5-6cm across) hanging onto my screen door and on the opposite end was the Praying Mantis. He's about 8cm long. At one point I noticed the Praying Mantis munching on something, and looked over and saw the Wolf Spider now only had 7 legs. bummer. They were still on opposite ends of the door. I checked back periodically and neither side was moving. Another 15 minutes later, I guess the Praying Mantis was finished with his appetizer, and slowly made his way over towards the spider. It took 5 minutes for him to crawl close enough to make an attack. The Wolf Spider tensed up and jumped back from the Praying Mantis' lunge. The spider then got aggressive and went in for an attack while his assailant regrouped. Big mistake. The Praying Mantis struck back before the spider got close enough, dug his front talons into the spider and bit into its side. He continued to eat for about a half an hour, finishing off 2 and half more legs and the entire back end of the spider. Of course, I now have half a spider hanging to my screen but it was really cool to see that up close. BW The Biggest Loser

For a minute there I thought you were describing two Vegas cocktail waitresses fighting over a tip. I then realized your story was too tame for that.
