Hello, I yust finished downloading WinXP from MSDN as a CDROM-imagefile. But it looks like Nero doesn't understand the format of this file. How can I create a bootable CDROM from this file??? -- Rainer Mangold

That's what I did too, but Nero only says "unexprected fileformat". However WinImage can open the file, and extract all files without any problem. -- Rainer

Quick question: Did you goto File->Open or File->Burn Image I went to File->Burn Image and everything went smoothly. If thats what you did then you got me. Sorry I can't help more. Joshua

I just selext File > Burn Image, and select "all files" select my image and burn it... I have another problem thoug, under the installation WinXP says that there's CRC errors on the files. So I had to download the "non image" part also, and burn a non-bootable cd. Then I booted on the bootable cd, and then changed to the other one to install XP..... - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!"

Be careful with the ones that have CRC errors. I can't verify it but on mine I burned the one I downloaded first, and the first thing that there was a problem should have hit me when it kept saying error can't upgrade?!?! Something about a missing file from the install, even though doing a dir showed the file as there. I automatically "assumed" another MS bug :-) However during the install it kept saying a whole bunch of files where not found, and then I couldn't boot into my system. So I had to reload Win98SE and downloaded the image again this time I CRC'd it and it checked out. This time when I clicked on upgrade it worked FINE! Oh well, live and learn :-) Sam C ---- Systems Manager Hospitality Marketing Associates

Thanks a lot for your tips. It looks like I used the wrong command. After using "File->Burn Image" Nero worked as expected. The CD is burned now, Autorun works fine, however starting the installation only brings up a "DOS"-box, then closes. All .TXT-files seen to have no content. It looks like all directoies except the root and \DOCS are corrupt. So I think something must have gone wrong with my download :( -- Rainer Mangold

You also might have had a problem with your burn. With faster CD-R's I notice a much larger failure percentage, and a much larger percentage of older CD-Rom's not being able to read CD-R's burned at higher speeds.

Unfortunately not at this time. As opening the IMG/(ISO) - file with WinnImage and extracting only those .txt-files gives the same result. -- Rainer
