I received this spam today. Notice how the real URL is hidden from the actial URL once you click on the link. If you cannot see it just move the IE window around. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear KeyBank Member, Due to concerns, for the safety and the integrity of your Key Bank account, we have issued this warning message... (more standard bullshit) . . . If the purchase was not made by you and would like to decline the $59.65 billing to your card, please follow the secured link below to decline the transaction: HTTPS://online-access.KeyBank.com/SSL/DeclineTransaction . . .

Crafty, but didn't work here, as I always stick the IE address bar on the same toolbar row as the menu to save screen space (so the fake address gets plonked on top of the toolbar instead) -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit! Phoenix Paint - back from DPaint's ashes!

Firefox turns the address bar yellow if you're at a secure site. It's pretty obvious. I've also set it so that windows aren't allowed to hide the address bar. :)

It is a very common practice to change the underlying hyperlink from what is actually displayed. The author is counting on the recipient not having their e-mail client or their browser configured to show this information when they mouse-over a hyperlink.

David, you missed the point. The point of interest is the window which is overlayed over the address bar in IE once you open the link.

Ivor S. Sargoytchev wrote: David, you missed the point. Not uncommon. The best one that I've seen is the popup that conveniently positions itself such that the menu and caption bar are just off the top of the screen. In the client area of the window is a custom menu and caption that looks just like the real thing. Clicking the X does not close the window like you'd expect, but instead takes you to their site or wherever. Sneaky!
