Firefox? No Thanks

I used to be an avid IE fan and still use it for Microsoft-related websites. The reasons I now use Mozilla are: 1. Open in background. I can open link on the background instead of switching over everytime I open a link. This is one most single annoying feature of IE that I hate. I can also open several links easily while reading the current page and waiting until the links have finished loading. ALSO, mouse-wheel clicking on a link opens it in another tab. 2. Mouse gesture. Handy when I feel I'm too lazy to use the keyboard at all. Also faster than searching for icons (e.g. forward, backward, refresh, bookmark, open link). 3. Safe(r) browsing experience. I'm not sure about the security side, but so far nothing has hijacked my Mozilla toolbar or changed my homepage :-D Those are the three main reasons I switched over. Edbert P. Sydney, Australia.

But I thought IE couldn't do all those things? ;P Joking asside, for what it does I don't find IE to be bloated at all? It views web pages... that's about it, surely?

:) I was mainly referring to the fact that a download of IE at one time was 40-80mb (thumbsucked values). Where FF 1.0 was only 4-5mb, which still seems rather big for 'something that renders web pages'.
Searching the web without Google is like straining sewage with your teeth.

Sorry to make you sick, but... ;) Security is number one reason! You do not get attacked every time some web site redirects you to some spyware installer. My wife nor my self has had one spyware application installed since switching to FireFox and she would get them weekly with IE. Number two has to be the extentions. There are some nice ones! As a web developer, I love some of the tools they provide that just do not exist on IE (unless it is some add-on I do not know about). For my old tied eyes, I also love the FoxyVoice extention that allows me to highlight text and have it read the text to me :) Every now and then I will find a site that does not render properly and FireFox still has many bugs, but it is getting better and at least I am not worrying about viruses as I did with IE. Userfriendly, 2003/06/07Yes but remember that was about 80% operating system updates. They used to use the I.E. setup as the main vehicle to distribute underlying operating system updates. I'm pretty sure it's all broken out now. Honestly, most of the criticism IE gets is unfair or biased just because it's Microsoft.

Nope. But what I'm saying is that if I.E. is the predominant web browser (and I know it is at least from our own website logs) then why should the standard not be what IE supports? Answer: because the standards people are unhappy with someone else setting the standard. You guys are barking up the wrong tree. If the other browsers implemented as I.E. implements there would be no need for you to pull your hair out trying to support arcane w3c recommendations for those other browsers.
