I am writing this as a contribution to the forums and the many viewers who are part of this forum to warn you. If you are looking for a webhost provider look further than ADDR.COM. For the last three days I couldn't get a hold of them for support and now for billing issues either by phone, fax, and email. Their control panel is suffering from serious JAVA script errors? (An important part of a hosting service). They make you call there number which is a toll number and you are put on hold for an hour or so, only to get transferred to voice mail which hangs up on you because the mailbox is full!!!!! Stay away from them and if anyone has anything to say in their defense please let me know. But they have posted no information on their webpage about what is going on. I think they are going the way of the do-do, and just taking every last cent they can. I have been trying to contact them for awhile to cancel my account and I will continue to do so by phone, fax, and email until someone there has the guts to give me a response. Thank God, CodeProject, is not hosted on a unscrupolous and idiotic service like that :-) Sam C ---- Systems Manager Hospitality Marketing Associates

I have been reasonably happy with PAIR (www.pair.com). I don't like the email only support, but I haven't needed that much support. I switched to them from earthlink/mindspring and got a 30% transfer speed boost from the servers. Tim Smith Descartes Systems Sciences, Inc.

Thanks a lot everyone! :-) I was mostly just trying to warn everyone to stay away from ADDR.COM I don't know what is going on with their service. Thanks for the advice on using the BBB, you can bet I am going to contact them immediately. Sam C ---- Systems Manager Hospitality Marketing Associates

Assuming that you are using a credit card for billing services, you can get ahold of customer service of your credit card to inform them of the problem and help you take action against them. You may also be able to get your credit card company to stop accept billing from that source. The credit card company refusing to accept the incoming bill will get ADDR's attention quickly. It's also a good idea to file with the BBB (Better Business Bureau) and file complaints in your state and the state in which they do business. You can do this all online through their site. These are two of the actions that you can take. Make sure you keep a documented history of all the actions that you take in your efforts to get ahold of them and make sure you have hard copies. Cheers, -Erik ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My thoughts are my own and reflect on no other.

Thanks for the advice that is exactly what I'm going to do next. It is unbelievable what type of hassle these people give you. I am trying to make sure they don't take anyone else. Sam C ---- Systems Manager Hospitality Marketing Associates

My best friend and I used to host our stuff on addr.com, until they got cracked a few months ago by an idiot who took their whole credit card database. They sent the first 50 or so records to a major news company (MSNBC I strongly believe) and they in turn got ADDR.COM to confirm it. There was an article on MSNBC about the whole incident, which doesn't appear to be there anymore. That ADDR.COM got cracked in the first place didn't really bother my friend and I. That ADDR.COM didn't notify us, and that we first heard through other sources, DID bother us, prompting us to switch to veoweb.net. We've been very happy with their very secure service ever since. (IE: you have to send in a fax of your driver's licence just to have your SSH access enabled) :) -Jason

I have been very very happy with ReadyHosting (www.readyhosting.com) I am using it for more than 4 months and it is really great. It also offers lots of features for just $99 per year (500MB web space,ASP,SQL,unlimited traffic, unlimited e-mails, ...etc). STRONGLY RECOMMENDEND! Try out www.macroangel.com to see the performance ;) Kind regards Mustafa Demirhan

I used to be on WestHost, but found their technical support to be lacking. Any time I asked a question about the version of MySQL or PHP they were running, it was always an old version. When I asked about the possibility of an upgrade, the answer was always, "We'll be doing this in the next month." Several months and many emails later, I moved over to JaguarPC. JaguarPC's service is wonderful, and I have had no serious problems. One time the server I am on failed completely. They simply brought up a spare, moved all the accounts over to it, and were up-and-running in an hour or two. Not too shabby! They even have a publically-accessible BBS where you can ask pre-sales questions, and get technical support from other users. It's actually a pretty close-knit community. -- Paul "I drank... WHAT?"

I know what you mean about the above, I've had a simular experience with so called cheap hosting elsewhere. If your after PHP/Mysql web hosting www.yourweb.com.au is great, also must be cheap for those USA people since the cheaper plan is $40 AUD per month.
