How does sending Tsunami relief turn into a pissing contest anyway? For fucks sake, man! I haven't heard a goddamn thing about how great it is that the world, including the US, has come together for support and relief in a time of need. Instead, it's more bitching about why there isn't more money, or how come it wasn't faster, or now what about the Africans. If people don't have something to fucking complain about they just aren't happy i guess. X| BW

(2) The money given by America so far, doesn't come close to the $8billion they've wasted in Iraq (3) There is a death toll the same every day in Africa, so we should be just as shocked about that too but it doesn't get the publicity.

The government is supporting a group, Janjaweed, which goes into the non-Arab villages to execute people, raid villages, and rape the women. That is why I find your last few words, "Africa pales by comparison", ignorant. Please tell this to the people who must leave their homes because their government hates them. The United States has declared Sudan to be a genocide, but the AU, EU, and UN haven't yet. Remember just because a nation is "backwards" in trade doesn't mean that you can judge them for choosing to live different. It is fantastic that people have donated for relief efforts after 150,000 people have died from the Tsunami and it is not worth mentioning that more people die each week in Africa and those deaths could actually be prevented --- and at lower cost. Such matters should be passed over in silence. We wouldn't want to interfere with the Western world basking in the glory of its own compassion by drawing attention to all those glory-hogging Africans trying to get their deaths on the front page. I agree and I haven't heard any significant complaints about the good that is being done. Instead, I hear a fairly constant stream of praise. The fact that people have responded with such generousity to the tsunami appeal presents an ideal opportunity to draw their attention to a still greater problem. Those involved in development efforts would be derelict in their responsibilities if they did not take advantage of this opportunity. Fortunately, they have discharged their responsibilities appropriately and have done the right thing in pointing out the much greater problems that remain to be tackled. You make your point well, but I am not sure that it is relevant. The people who are drawing attention to the plight of Africa are not, as you seem to suppose, killjoys who believe in helping no-one. They are in many cases people deeply involved in development efforts. They are delighted at the generousity being shown to the tsunami victims and would simply like to see others receiving similar assistance. They also have a legitimate concern that, rather than aid budgets being expanded to assist tsunami victims, funds may simply be redirected away from Africa where the need is greater. The fact that the situation in Africa receives so little attention is a matter for concern, and now is an ideal opportunity to raise the issue.
