My IBM ThinkPad G40 is classified as a "laptop" computer, but it gets far too hot to actually use on my lap. I sometimes do work while on the couch watching Seinfeld on television, but I have to keep moving this US$1700 personal heater from burning the tops of my legs! Barry Etter

Laptops should not be used on your lap. Men who regularly balance their laptop computers on their laps when working may be jeopardizing their ability to have children, according to a new study from fertility researchers at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. The findings suggest that young men should place laptop computers on a desk, a table or anywhere else but their own laps. http://www.wired.com/news/medtech/0,1286,65970,00.html[^] ----------------------------------------------------- Empires Of Steel[^]

Part of the problem is the fact that you have to keep your legs so close together... it's not just the heat. Thin cushion or not, I'm guessing you need to keep your legs close together. Regards, Brian Dela :-) Now Bloging![^]

My Dell gets way too hot if I am charging the battery while I am using it. What I do is to take a blanket and fold it several times and place it between my lap and the computer...makes it bearable. p.s. Yup. I blame the ad companies, making bad posture look hip. And it's not just roast nuts we have to worry about - look at this guy, all focused and intense, no doubt communicating with his cabal members as they lay plans to subjugate humanity. Ever try and sit like that for any length of time? My neck feels like someone replaced it with pointy rocks... And hey, what's with that work surface? Way too high to be typing, too low to read... who builds these things? There's a conspiracy among very short/very tall furnature designers to send us to an early grave, horribly deformed and twisted from trying to use such poor equipment. An early definition for "hacker" that refers to someone making furnature with an axe; guess i'd better dig out the emery wheel and get sharpening...

An obvious solution is to first place the object of your affections on your lap, then work with the computer on her lap.
