cycling in winter is fun - when everybody starts to scratch the ice from the windows, I'm rolling past them (seriously: it's deadly dangerous, as smaller roads are often icy/not serviced.)

Yeah, that's the problem. My road eventually will get scraped, but riding while the snow is actually falling can be tough. My bike is a mountain bike, though, right now I have on the smooth tires, perhaps I shold change to the mountain bike tires (whatever they are called, the ones with the cool looking bunpy treads.) Actually, it's a shot glass of cherry brandy. :-O I've had my coffee ration (2 mugs) for the day now, so I'm on softer stuff. Of course, if I really need to chill there's a crate of Hoegaarden[^] lurking quite happily in the kitchen... Anna :rose: Riverblade Ltd - Software Consultancy Services Anna's Place | Tears and Laughter "Be yourself - not what others think you should be" - Marcia Graesch "Anna's just a sexy-looking lesbian tart" - A friend, trying to wind me up. Well, next Monday, I will be getting some work done on my car, and it will be in the shop for about a week (hopefully will get it back Friday.) So, considering that I live in America, in a city that has a pretty poor transit system.... do you think I can go a week without a car? In my favor: :bob: I do live close to work. It is easily bikeable in good weather. :bob: It is possible to do some work at home. I certainly couldn't go the whole week, but I could work for a day, or a few hours here and there, if necessary. :bob: The grocery store is even closer than where I work, so no problem getting there. What I'm up against: :bob: I'm not on a bus line, I'm about half a mile from the nearest stop. :bob: The weather. It is winter, after all, and if it snows, well, biking in the snow ain't fun. :bob: No sidewalks on my road. If I have to walk anywhere, I need to make sure it is not during rush hour, lest I get squashed. :bob: This is the United States. It is almost un-American to travel in any fashion other than automobile. :) So, think I can make it? I am trying to avoid renting or borrowing somebody else's car... I really wouldn't consider that a problem.... :P I walk for at least 30 mins every day, and that's an absolute minimum. It's good exercise and good for the environment.
