IE 7 Beta : This Summer
-
PressPass: What’s next for Internet Explorer? Nash: We’re very excited to announce at the RSA Conference today that this summer we’ll release a beta of Internet Explorer 7.0 for Windows XP with Service Pack 2, which will have even more enhancements to security and privacy protections. These enhancements align very closely with the three core tenets of Microsoft’s security approach that I mentioned earlier. Internet Explorer 7.0 will be the most secure browser we’ve ever released, building on and surpassing the success of the SP2-enhanced Internet Explorer 6.0. We don’t plan to ship it until it meets our quality bar, which we’ve set pretty high.

I wonder if they'll do a version for those of us on lesser OSs than XP? Already Media Player 10 is XP only, so I don't hold any hopes. :(

If there is enough user pressure, then we might see a version of IE7 for Win2k but the 9x series won't see one. Let the IE7 team[^] know your thoughts. Michael CP Blog [^] Development Blog [^]

Nash: We’re very excited to announce at the RSA Conference today that this summer we’ll release a beta of Internet Explorer 7.0 for Windows XP with Service Pack 2, which will have even more enhancements to security and privacy protections. These enhancements will keep you from getting your machine infected for almost 15 days, until the first vulnerability will be found. Internet Explorer 7.0 will be the most secure browser we’ve ever released, building on and surpassing the success of the SP2-enhanced Internet Explorer 6.0, which is losing users quickly to Firefox. Our initial plan was to deliver this browser in 2 years, but we convinced our project managers that they will be able to deliver it in 3 months from now. Just add more programmers to the project. We don’t plan to ship it until it meets our quality bar, which we’ve set pretty high, and I'm saying this as if it was possible to reduce a project delivery time to 15% of the original time without sacrificing quality. Actually, we plan to introduce a lot of nice new features, but we can’t tell you exactly what those features in details are, or those open-source monsters will start copying it even before IE7 is released. We also are making this public announcement as a desperate measure to stop you not to download and install Firefox. Yes, even I am blogging now!
