I find it to be so odd that in todays business some U.S. companies don't ship to Canada or other countries outside the U.S.

It is really odd. I've used Tiger Direct in the past and have had no problems. Along with having a discount outlet here in Canada, they have a .ca website for shopping. But your order is filled and shipped from the US. Before Christmas I bought an Acer laptop for one of my daughters and it was sitting on my door step 3 days after ordering. But newegg has some better pricing deals and I like their website better for searching and making comparisons. Chris Meech I am Canadian. We have some really lame export laws. When it comes to computers, software, and the such most retail companies don't want to be bothered with going through the restrictive and burdensome process of applications and licensing. Then we have to address Canada's exteremely unfriendly import taxes that would wipe out any savings the US retailer could possibly extend to its Canadian clients. So, even if a retailer did get past all the red tape it would still not be profitable to serve Canadian clients at this time. Not really odd at all actually. The problem is fraud. I know there are countries that I don't allow my software to be sold to simply because of fraud. Now obviously Canada is not going to be a hotbed for fraud like some other countries but even if a small amount of fraud occurs, it can cost an overwhelming amount to prosecute in another country. Therefore some companies simply decide not to sell there.

Two weeks ago I built a new system buying the vast majority of stuff from www.ZipZoomFly.com[^]. I did buy a few things from www.newegg.com[^] but their prices seem to be higher and they charge more for shipping. (NewEgg's web site, however, is wonderful. It's the one fly in ZipZoomFly.com's ointment. Anyone who thinks he has a better idea of what's good for people than people do is a swine. - P.J. O'Rourke
