domain registration
-
hi everyone - I've got a question for the website running type folks around here. There's a domain that someone currently owns, that I want, and looks to be expiring soon. It looks like the owner bought the domain, but never used it, because there's still a "coming soon..." page up, which is many years old. Anyway, I'm not sure what the proper, tactful way to go about acquiring this site is. It's currently got a status of REGISTRAR-LOCK. When the expiring date hits, does that change and I can just grab the site? Or do I need to contact the person who owns it? Being the bashful type, I'd rather not contact the owner if I don't have to, but I don't want to be offensive either. Any thoughts on how to go about this? Rock..... At the end of the current registration, when it expires, there is usually a 30 day "grace" period during which the current owner can "recover" the domain. After that it is fully upfor grabs by the first person who can register it. The "Registrar-Lock" will probably be active until the end of "grace" period. Some registrars allow "pre-registering" a domain, which will trigger the registration as soon as it can happen on your behalf. You might consider that if you really want this name.

In GoDaddy[^] you can backorder a domain for about twice the price of a regular domain (still very cheap.) You could try that. -- LuisR
