I need your opinion. Would you take a 8 year old to the Body Worlds exhibition?
As with the other responses, It depends on the child. Personally I think 12yrs and older are fine. I went to see it a few years ago with my Mom and sister when it was shown in London. It got a lot of controversal press at the time and prepared myself for some repulsive exhibit, but in the end I liked it. At times it was shocking, but not because of the exhibit, but because of what it tried to put across, like the display of the cancer ridden lung! But most of the time I was in awe of the remarkable display of the human (and other species) form. There are times in which you do realise that these displays where once living human beings. That thought made it quite morbid. I would recommend it to anyone, but only to the age group that would appreciate the concept.

I just saw this last Sunday here in LA with my 12-year-old son. The exhibitions are presented with great dignity and not gooey or gross in any way. I would think your nephew's reaction would depend much upon your yours; as long as you don't show that you have a problem, he probably won't, either. I found the displays to be a fascinating and awe-inspiring experience. Enjoy! 'til next we type... HAVE FUN!! -- Jesse

I went to it in London a few years back in London. I remember being surprised at some of the things on display but then again I didn't really know what to expect going into it. It was a mix of educational / art / weirdness. Some things there were definately intendend to provide shock value (ex: baby fetus' at all ages up until birth) but it wasn't too bad for the most part. And they know what their 8 yr old will be seeing? (I had to read the other posts to figure out what the exhibit was of.) I wouldn't have brought MY son to somethin like that last year when he was 8... Or even now that he's 9... I mean, sure, the kid'll probably learn something. But, time you spend with a kid doesn't have to be about learning anything. Honestly, the BEST time I've spent with my son has been sittin in a crappy ice cream shop chattin about their dumb ads :) Tonight Connor needs aaaaaaa... FLAVOR OF THE MONTH! (understood to mean BATH time. inside joke.) Most all kid jokes make NO sense. But you should hear his laugh whenever he hears that line! Try goin to a fountain where he risks getting soaked. Those are good, too... ...Steve

Thank you all for your responses. I am still not sure whether the exhibition would be good for my nephew. As I was talking to a colleague, whether she would like to go for the exhibition herself, she said she probably won't go for it, once she knew what exactly the it was about. So if an adult could have double mind about the exhibition, i probably shouldn't take the kid at first. So I might go to the exhibition first alone and then if i figure it would be OK to bring him to the exhibition, I'll plan another visit :) Ankita

As the others said, really depends on the kid - but if he's OK with it it could be a very very good thing. Just watch him how he does - maybe he even enjoys it :) You know, lungs are cool...
