Don't know about "moderately priced" (they're all overpriced imho) but I love my (2 year old) Garmin. The TomTom Go[^] has got rave reviews and is priced 25%+ less than the Garmin. It can be had for $750 at CompUSA, BestBuy, etc. The only things I don't like about it are (a) it doesn't come with a weighted bean bag like the Garmin (which means it has to be mounted) and (b) like all touch-screen units, its screen is prone to reflection. Other than that, I think it wins hands down over the Garmins. If you're in the US, you could get it on a no=risk 30 day trial from ShopAtHome TV[^]. Btw, I don't think the "Plus" version (which costs $1000) is worth the extra money. /ravi My new year's resolution: 2048 x 1536 Home | Articles | Freeware | Music ravib@ravib.com

Does she have a PDA? I just bought the Garmin 10[^] for mine and love it. I'd much rather buy a standalone portable unit than pay for an in-dash one from the manufacturer. /ravi My new year's resolution: 2048 x 1536 Home | Articles | Freeware | Music ravib@ravib.com

Thanks. I think the sticker shock will give her pause though.

Yes, and is seldom without a laptop. That unit might be the solution for her.

It came with both types of software, PDA + Laptop :) You do need to but a PDA holder, I got mine from http://www.extremepda.com/[^] which also had a power cable for the PDA. Most useful :) Gary Rich Cook: "Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots.
