And the Chinese want to buy them from Europe? Riiiiiiigggghhhhht! He said this was like painstakingly assembling the first layer of a house of cards, then boasting that the next 15,000 layers were a mere formality.--The Code Book, pp. 331 Toasty0.com DotNetGroup.org

Most of the best weapons at least originated from Europe - we've been killing each other for longer than the Americans have.

As Karl says, so does everyone. Unfortunately we are so busy selling equipment to our allies (and enemies) that we can't afford to give it to our own troups. I have more British Army issue clothing and equipment in my wardrobe than some of our troups have on the ground in Iraq. It's very, very sad really.

Good news: It looks as though the European Union will postpone lifting its embargo on arms exports to China, at least until next year. This is the right move.[^] I mostly agree with this guy. Selling weapons to a dictatorship is not a smart move to improve human rights. Feck this business.

We should not sell weapons to China - besides the obvious that they are still a communist dictatorship, they will most likely pull any equipment they get their hands on and start mass producing it themselves.

If I remember correctly, France is the world's 3rd largest arms dealer. (They might've surpassed Russia to become #2, I'm not sure. And the US is the top arms dealer.) Germany is in the top 10. I'm sure that Europe has a substantial place in the arms market once you combine the european nations together. (Arms sales in millions of dollars.)
