Don't panic, Its the dust that harms, and then you need to inhale it rather than ingest it. The main danger with the stuff is in demolition or like Jan suggests a 911 type disaster. Regardz Colin J Davies The most LinkedIn CPian (that I know of anyhow) :-)

I just watched a documentary on the tv about asbestos, really scary stuff. It showed how in 1898 a british factory inspector found out, that it caused massive problems for the factory workers. And it showed how scientific material was neglected, even destroyed, up untill the 1980's so that the factories could continue the business. Truly scary, but there was especially one thing that I noticed. They mentioned that 40 floors of the world trade center was covered with sprayed-on asbestos. So, the towers came tumbling down, and the entire city was covered in dust. My question is: Did they remove all that asbestos back in the 80's, or will New Yorkers die from asbestosis over the next 30-40 years? I guess this is the same documentary that was on Finnish TV a few weeks ago. If that's the case, don't miss the next three parts of the series, especially the last one about the use of lead in gasoline.

we are not allowed to put nails in the walls at work and mounting a new air conditioner required a hazmat team.... our walls at work are from the 1940's. _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. I believe the risk increases with increased contact, i.e. being in New York for 9/11 is no guarentee of damage, living next door to an asbestos mine, or some other source of asbestos with lower exposure over a longer time is, I believe, more of a risk. I think it depends on the total particle exposure you have over a period of time. So 1 day at a 3650 dose is the same as 10 yrs at a 1 dosage level. The reasoning is that once you inhale the particles, apart from radical surgery they never leave. Regardz Colin J Davies The most LinkedIn CPian (that I know of anyhow) :-)

The tank itself, or the insulating jacket around the tank?

One of the points they made in the documentary was, that it was an extremely small dosage, one that could easily be inhalated from a very brief contact, that could lead to asbestosis. As Colin says, it never leaves the lungs once it gets there. Oh, and by the way, my first Google result was from NSC, and they didn't mention that there could be problems with small dosages. But while you can certainly discredit the filmmakers for wanting to make money, you have to remember that NSC represents one of the governments that purposely misinformed its citizens for 100 years. Obviously, they don't want to make too much fuss, especially not, when there is probably thousands of public buildings that are covered in asbestos enhanced isolation materials...
