After looking at the thread on Microsoft's Forums (http://msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.developer.winfx.general&tid=4384e240-eec0-4a27-afbd-88e0243a3cad[^]) it looks like you might need to pay yearly in order to use Windows Longhorn. If that is true, I'll be keeping my installation of XP Pro for a long long time. What do you think? It could have been a valid discussion but I should have known better. The Linux zealots came out and trashed MS for totally ficticious and idiotic reasons. If they could have a level discussion something interesting _might_ have come of it. *sigh* Oh and pay subscription for Longhorn? Maybe if it was like $5/month. And maybe if it ever comes out.

It would be sooo great, because it would make our customers not upgrade to Longhorn, so I would be spared from redoing my whole friggin' UI

M$ wanted to do that with Office before .NET came out. It didn't fly. My guess is, since sells weren't what they'd used to be for Windows M$ is trying to squeeze every dollor it can out of people. Jeremy Falcon

As a depeartment under an academic licence program we have been dooing this for the last 3 to 5 years. At one point under our academic licence we were allowed to purchase software for like $65 a program and use it forever for no additional cost (Windows, VC++ ...). But now its latest Office + latest windows version + latest visual studio for $75 per year per seat and no more programs for $65. And this was announced that this is to save us a lot of money. I am not sure that this saves us at all over the old buy once system as we do not need to upgrade very often. I mean none of our users have moved past vc6 although several versions of office and windows are installed. John

Really though.. it depends upon the price they want to charge... I MIGHT be willing to pay 100 per year for a subscription as long as it gets me technical supoprt, all upgrades, etc... It all comes down to price. [EDIT] Ok, Maybe not ALL down to price. The question then comes up as to MY abillity to stay at a level (not have to keep upgrading my os) that I want to be at. {/EDIT]
