Almost a decade ago (back in the newsgroup days), one of the many items repeatedly passed around was one that poked fun at the English language's lack of phonetic spelling. It began with its words spelled correctly, and it described how specific letters should be replaced by their phonetic counterparts. As the description continued, its word spellings changed according to its "new" phonetic policy. By the end of it, it was almost unreadable. Does anyone else recall this? Anyone have a link to it? I tried googling for it to no avail, but then again, I wasn't sure what to look for beyond "phonetic." Thanks, blueSprite :rose:

Thanks :) I think that's it (definitely same concept, if not the actual same article). I had thought it was longer than that, but my fuzzy memory is probably off a bit! I was curious to see how closely the article resembled my neice's IM screen language... :) Thanks, blueSprite :rose:

The one I remember was how the Germans (or specifically Nazis) were going to take over the world by changing the English language to sound and look like German. "If only one person knows the truth, it is still the truth." - Mahatma Gandhi Web - Blog - RSS

If anyone could provide a link to that it would be great! I've been looking since I saw this thread, but getting nowhere. It ended with something like "und in ze end ze vill all be talking german like ze vanted in ze virst place!" Was very funny. :)

Yeah, I know. That's not exactly the one I saw either. :) "If only one person knows the truth, it is still the truth." - Mahatma Gandhi Web - Blog - RSS
