    I had to reinstall WinXP again(above the seven time now) and I couldn't get to the floppy drive to boot it would just keep trying to start XP. I change the boot order from CDROM,A,C to D,A,SCSII because XP was on the C and I don't have SCSII Drives. The A drive can up I and I did a quick format on the C drive change the boot order back and Install XP. When XP check the HD for a prev OS it say it found XP which it shouldn't have. So I reboot and changed the boot order to D,A,SCSII and The A drive came up I dir the C drive no files/dirs. I check the D drive and found the XP files. I realize the D drive had file I have collect in the last two years(like my 1000 some MP3s). So after saying many bad word, I came to the conclution when I change the boot order to D,A,SCSII DOS decided to make D the C and C the D and when I format the C I formated over my personal file that should have been on the D drive. I need these file before I can going out of town to buy a Norton Utitiles Program and I don't buy on the Inet. So is there any free/time limited unformat type disk recovering software somewhere on the net that I can use once and restore the whole drive 12GB FAT32? I have tried some but they were really limited one you could only view what the full version could restore and another one only could restore files under 150KB. Thank you... Dude, sue MS for yer troubles. They take your money easy enough...At least their sh1t could werk outta the box. I still can't boot XP like a normal person. Gotta crash the system once, go into 'safe mode' then reboot. Works fine then, 'til I reboot. Josh Knox Josh@that-guy.net

        I don't understand why people install XP and then complain. Why can't they throw XP away and stick with Windows 2000? Maybe XP 2.0 will be better Nish Sonork ID 100.9786 voidmain

            No blue screen, just a black screen and the system freezes after the initial loading screen. No ctrl-alt-del or anything. Gotta kill the power. Then I boot into safe mode. Then I restart again. Then, if I click the mouse buttons at the end of the loading screen it usually boots OK. But if I don't click the mouse it just freezes again. I can't figure it out. And MS wont even acknowledge my emails, the pompous jerks. Errrrgggghhh.... Josh Knox Josh@that-guy.net

              I wasn't complaining about XP. I have installed XP seven time now and about 30 hours after the last time its is working great. It is a great system but I don't have any aticials on XP just what little come with the Help on the Start Menu. Without aticials I can make many mistakes and bring the whole OS down in the wake. It may take seven more installs to keep it working right but that fine. Real World Coding:      POP& BuyAPop(Money ADollar){...};

                Well I got the Blue screen and It would start till it pass the screen with the Progress bar with three dots and restart in a loop. I could go into safemode without know what to change. Then restart back into the restart loop. Real World Coding:      POP& BuyAPop(Money ADollar){...};

                  I don't think I could sue microsoft because I changed the boot order and didn't look what was one the drive I wanted to format before formatting. DOS's Format even asks if I am sure. XP is working great now I just want my data back and I cant go buy a unformater so I am trying to find one. Ouch. I had that with Win2000 over the weekend - and I couldn't even get into safe mode. To make things worse, the reboot happened so quick I couldn't even see what the error was. :confused: I did a repair, reinstalled a few things, and (this is the important bit) turned off the "Automatically Reboot" checkbox (on the Startup and Recovery dialog accessed from the Advanced tab of the System Properties). It was just as well I did - because it happened again a day later. :confused: It turns out that Win2000 will die horribly if it can't load any part of the registry on boot (it lives in \SystemRoot\System32\Config\) - and the SOFTWARE hive isn't backed up by Win2000 the way it is by Win98 (SYSTEM is though). So a disk error here is really bad news. X| The moral? Backup regularly, keep your recovery disk up to date, and scan and defrag often. Otherwise, one day your trousers will be well and truly around your ankles...:(( Andy Metcalfe - Sonardyne International Ltd

                      You could try Drive Rescue, but it doesn't run from DOS.
