...of a freshly reinstalled box in the evening (plus the DVD+RW drive I added in for good measure) :-) And the reinstall so far has gone surprisingly smoothly - mostly because I remembered to back everything important up and made sure I knew what all my passwords are this time :-D

Ian Darling The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity ... that such complexity can arise ... out of such simplicity ... is the most fabulous extraordinary idea ... once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened - it's just wonderful ... the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned - Douglas Adams

Yeah. What with you being a relative youngster, I expect that none of your computers has ever got beyond about Cruft Level 3 or 4[^] My computer was around Level 6, with key problems including: * The iPod refuses to work, with an error message only found mentioned in two places on the net - and one of those was me bitching about it. * Pictures on the desktop won't "Preview", even though the Picture Viewer will view the picture quite happily off the "Open With" menu. * Outlook takes far too long to load, even by Outlooks standards. It was likely to hit 7 in a month or so (in fact, I did try the "second user account" approach to see if it improved matters - it didn't). So I figured I'd bite the bullet, install a shiny DVD writer while I was at it, and reinstall the whole box from scratch :) It's taken much less time than I expected to get up and running again, although I'll be fiddling with stuff for a week
