I am considering installing RedHat Linux as a dual boot on my computer. I was wanting to make sure that it was compatible with a USB keyboard. I also have 2 harddrives on my computer, is it possible to install Linux on the second harddrive and leave my first one alone? If anyone has any pointers to ease this along for me, it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Justin

RedHat 7.1 and 7.2 supports most USB keyboards. I don't know about the earlier version of RedHat. It is possible to completely install Linux on the second drive with one exception. The first hard drive must be less than 8GB, or else the Linux will not boot up. Since my hard drives are 20GB each, I had to use Partition Magic to etch a small 64 MB Linux boot partition on my first hard drive. Other tips to save you time: 1. When installing RedHat choose the Custom System Install Type. 2. Use Linux's disk partitioning software when installing RedHat and create the boot partition in the 64 MB partition you made with Partition Magic. 3. Create the swap and root partitions on the second hard drive. The root partition will contain the OS and the apps you install. 4. If you choose to use LILO as your boot manager, place LILO in the Master Boot Record(MBR). If you choose to use Boot Magic or System Commander, install LILO in the first sector of the root partition. The following will make more sense as you do your install. Now your ready for some cross platform programming! Kind regards, Tim

No. We have to make the patition of the boot in C drive of the first hard drive with the boot. Please, don't send me your email about your questions directly. Have a nice day! Hello, the codegurus around the world.;) IC. We can boot Linux by LILO on the boot disk But, is this a dual boot machine? I guess that the dual boot means that we have the option screen to show Windows OS or Linux? Please, don't send me your email about your questions directly. Have a nice day! Whoa - that link is hosted on LINUX.COM. They key word being .COM. What ever happened to all the freak sites - I... er... mean Linux sites - sticking with the .ORG domains? That was the only way I could tell them apart. Now I'll have to download the trach to my machine (which is no easy task with my Internet connection) before adding the dommain to my filter list. if you prefer .ORG, here's the same info on Linux.org. Linux.com is part of VA Linux, just like SlashDot, SourceForge and FreshMeat. all of these sites are obviously trying to be content-heavy "portal" sites. they all have news headlines, articles, lots of ads, lots of interconnections, etc.. and, they're trying to make money, but, they aren't making money selling software - they're selling services and ad space. just like CP... -c

Win2k on first hard drive and Linux on second works just fine, no boot partitions on first drive are necessary. You can even use Win2k boot manager to start Linux.
