Big fan of Conquerors and AOM. Like others, I'm waiting on AOEIII[^]. The screenshots look great so far. Rise of Nations is fun too. I'm not sure what kind of answer you're looking for regarding what you need to know, but there is a developer's blog on the AOEIII site you might find an interesting read. BW

Civ3 is still my favourite game and I'm looking forward to the next version very much. I recently started playing 'Half Life 2' again as there are two forthcoming SP addon-packs that interest me. It's still a pain in the arse to get working. I've had to swap to the latest NVida beta-drivers as the WHQL ones prevented HL2 from starting. It still locks and crashes too much for my liking too. So I'm having second thoughts on getting the add-ons. Michael CP Blog [^] Development Blog [^]

I don't know how many game designers there are around here, but I've always wanted to be one. Its a Real Time Strategy game so there are plenty of books and other resources available to help you design and program a game like that.

I MUCH preferred the Civilization game, I think it was the one from Activision, primarily because it had the 'simultaneous' combat model. I then tried to play Civilization III when it was released, and mind you, everything was fantastic about that game except its combat model. I could not overcome the frustation of having a stack of phalanx and catapults, and then some archers or other unit takes out my catapults, when I had archers also that could have pinned their archers. It just made no sense who was atacking or defending who and that totally ruined the game for me. If the combat model in Civ 4 is simultaneous combat, then great. If not, I will stick to Children of the Nile, or SimCity 4 or whatever else might be coming out.

Yes, yes, yes! :-D I love the Conquerors the best. I'm waiting for AoE3. The Conquerors, and Minesweeper and RoadRash are about the only games I play. Cheers, Vikram.

Age Of Mythology is great man, you don't know what you're missing. Me and my wife play online almost every night. I loved Age of Kings and the Conquerors expansion, one of the best in the series. I usually played the Scots or Britons...fun game, but once you got to the last age, you could get those seige catapult things that could plow over virtually any army. Also, heavy cavalry was way too powerful in that game.

My wife & I play Age of Mythology almost every night. If you've got the game, we'd hook up and do a game or two with ya.

I've loved all the Age Of * games, Age of Kings was great as well as the conquerors expansion. But Age of Mythology is simply the best game yet; it looks great in full 3d (compared to the 2d Age of Kings): the god powers like meteor shower and lightning storm look amazing. But the real kicker is the gameplay: simply amazing gameplay that I haven't gotten bored with in 2 years of playing. My wife and I play together almost every night; sometimes we'll play games long as 1 or 2 hours in some really magnificent battles. The strategy is great too, I using little skirmishes as a way to distract the enemy until I come around with heavy infantry on the flanks and slaughter his innocent villagers! :D I've tried to play other games, first person shooters (which I used to love) and other RTS games. But I get bored with them after a few hours of fragging; it just pales in comparison to the awesome thrill of a multi-hour long Age of Mythology game, especially if you end up winning; the victory is so sweet it makes you want to get up and dance. :-D Great game, I really love it. Looking forward to AOE3 later this year!

I liked Civilization 2 much better then the third for some reason. Was a great game... perhaps I should install it again. (Civ2 even was the topic of my very first webpage :D) --------------------------- 127.0.0.1 - Sweet 127.0.0.1

                    > I liked Civilization 2 much better then the third for some reason. I spent many, many hours on Civ2. Then a few years later I actually bought Civ3. For some reason I could never get into it. I can't explain it...

That's the bad part - I *do* know what I'm missing. :( I played it for some time on my PC before it got worse. Of course, I wasn't able to enjoy it fully given my PC's pathetic state, but I know it's a great game. Cheers, Vikram.
