In windows, you can right click on a program and assign a keyboard shortcut to it. (For example, I have the DOS prompt set to Ctrl-Alt-D.) Recently, my assigned shortcuts have been taking _forever_ to launch; I'll hit Ctrl-Alt-D, wait a 5 second pause during which explorer is 'frozen' (at least, won't respond to anything I do; other apps are fine) then the DOS prompt comes up. I haven't changed anything recently. Anybody have any ideas?

No idea, but I have exactly the same problem when I open Windows Explorer. It just sits frozen for a few seconds (and sometimes when I change directory, but not always). Not changed anything that I'm aware and its only started in the last couple of days. Grrrr :( -- The Obliterator

I do, but I have disabled the indexing service. I'll try toggling all the drives with that set just for the heck of it, though. :)

I started having problems right-clicking on any file or shortcut monhts ago, explorer would consume 100% CPU until switching to another app. I've fixed this by setting CPU priority of explorer.exe to lowest. As a consequence almost any program you start also gets low priority. Maybe my solution can help, good luck anyway Regards Bert

I turned off indexing on ALL drives; shortcuts still slow. I disconnected/deleted all network mapped drives; still slow. :( Will keep experimenting.. :)

Ack! It only happens when Visual C++ 6.0 is running. If VC isn't running, shortcuts launch immediately. If VC is running, there's a 5-10 second delay. *blink* Furthermore, it only happens when the Visual Assist plugin is enabled in MSVC++. Edit again: version "1246" had the problem; upgraded to 1301 and it works fine now. Thanks for all the responses!
