Belgian women's soccer team SK Berlaar had to stomach a 50-1 defeat against rival KV Mechelen on Saturday because their goalkeeper had opted to attend a music concert instead, a local newspaper said.[^]

How could the skill difference between a first team goalkeeper and a substitute be so bad? The substitute wasn't trained in goalkeeping? :~ The goalkeeper must have enjoyed the music concert and now it is time for her to face the music. Weiye Chen Life is hard, yet we are made of flesh...

If only both teams would play without a goalie -- then it would be an exciting fast-paced game. Matt Gerrans

Maybe there was no goalkeeper used at all.

There's only a slight difference between them. If the first goalkeeper had played, the score would be 40-1.

The article implies there was, quoting the substitute goalie.

Somehow I'm thinking that any team who allows 50+ (remember that this doesn't count the saves that were made if any) shots has bigger problems then just the goalie not being there.
