I was thinking this may be a good idea for a poll. For me (as a spectator) it's cricket and Aussie rules - BUT after much investigation I've turned to the dark side and have become morbidly fascinated with Hockey (the type that you don't specify - ie. not field hockey). So I was just wondering what most people here watch if forced to spend a night indoors with some mates, beer and your choice of greasy food. cheers, Chris Maunder

Football - Soccer for those outside the UK. It's better watching it at a stadium, but the TV coverage is okay at a push for those of us who can't get tickets to see our beloved team play. Michael :-)

Stockcar racing. All ball sports are for sissies. Think about it. Ball sports: 1) Nothing travels faster than maybe 110mph (a pitched or hit baseball). 2) Most of the ball sports require that grown men touch each other. 3) The clothes are worn because they're pretty (except maybe for rugby players). Stockcar Racing: 1) If you can't go 200mph, you can't compete. 2) Nobody touches anyone else unless it's to drag them out of a wrecked stockcar. 3) The clothes a stockcar driver wears are to protect him from being burned alive. John, you have it all wrong. Dead wrong. Let me explain. Take war for example. Those guys who go in on foot with just a blade, some camo and a gun have big kahunas. Would you agree they have bigger balls than guys who fly super sonic jets or 30 000 feet bombers? I would say yes. I am not saying fighter jocks are not brave, anybody in war has big balls. But the guys leapord crawling through mud and vietnamese tunnels have bigger balls IMHO. So by corellation guys who strap themselves into a two ton chunk of alloy and metal and zip around a track have smaller balls than guys who simply wear a shirt, some shorts and run full tilt into each other, intentionally trying their best to hurt the other guy. Stockcar you try and avoid everyone, rugby you make sure you come away with at least the guys ear or lip. To watch my favourite is a good five hours of golf... ;P No actually that would be my worst, no doubt about it. To watch womens beach volleyball is pretty, errr, entertaining. :-D I heard they are complaining that the TV cameras are focusing far too much on their "behinds and breasts" and not enough of their amazing ball skills. Dead serious, I laughed so hard when I heard that. "ball skills" is such an unfortunate term to use in this case, but that is what they said. Well you mentioned beer, so to be truthful it would have to be any bloody thing at all. ;P If I am at the pub then Boxing is the only sport worth watching at all. If you take beer out of the equation and I am at home it would be 1. Cricket 2. Rugby League 3. Rugby Union 4. Aussie Rules 5. Tennis 6. Most any sport. I've watched the Olympics for Christ's sake, even sat through diving when I was too tired to change the channel or to go to bed. Got to say that Golf and Soccer are far too boring too watch on TV unless it is to watch Australia fail to reach the final 32 of the Soccer World Cup every 4 years after showing so much promise in the lead up. I remember one particular Stanley Cup semi-final in the Guy Lafleur era where it was in overtime in game seven (against Don Cherry's Boston Bruins) and I was a basket case--couldn't take the tension--and I looked around and my three younger brother and sisters--and my girlfriend at the time--were fast asleep. But the Habs have never been the same since the retirement of Sammy Pollock. I gave up on them after taking a trip to the old Forum--and you couldn't find a word of English in the place. But you can't beat a well played hockey game for tension and excitement. JM

John, I still have a teddy bear my wife gave me, that sports a Habs hockey shirt with the number 10. His nickname is 'Flower'. My Hab memories date back to the Beliveau, Richard, and Cournoyer era in the 60's. I remember my Dad taking me and my brother to see the Canadiens play in 1964 against the Detroit Red Wings. Gordie Howe, Alex Delvechio and gang played to a 1 all tie. It was unbelievable. In 1965, I actually played a hockey game on the original Forum ice. Our house league championship game was played there. You skated out on that ice and man you felt sorrounded by all the greats that have ever played there. About eight years ago I met Yvan Cournoyer while he was signing hockey cards at a Zellers store. After talking about games from the 60's and drinking at some of the old Montreal hangouts, we went and had a brew at a local pub in my now hometown of Bowmanville. It was a dream come true. Habs fans here in Ontario are few and far between. Chris

Baseball - the ultimate contest. Mano y mano and yet still a team sport. No clock - no time limits - no tie games - played by people that look like normal people, not physical freaks like most other sports. Skill, stratgey, speed, strength.
