I am try to build an WinXP system an need files off my WinME labtop but I keep getting the Unable to browse network box. I had the same trouble WinNt4 and WinME but something happen right(I cant rememeber what i did). What happens is I got the NT4/XP setup that I can browse the file that are shared in Network Neighborhood and I have ME all setup like NT4/XP w/ right IP and Computer name. I have restated ME. I Opened up the MS-DOS Prompt on ME and can ping 192.168.0.1(XP) or 192.168.0.2(ME). I tried winipcfg and found that the IP/Subnet Mask it found was 0.0.0.0. Why isn't this working because winipcfg displaying correct infomation for my internet IP/DNS on my modem I am sending this post through? Real World Coding: POP& BuyAPop(Money ADollar){...};

I'd start by manually setting the subnet mask on both machines to 255.255.255.0. If you're on a network, you could also disconnect both machines and connect them back to back with a crossover cable. To make it really simple, add the NetBEUI protocol to both machines and bind it to the NICs - no configuration is needed for NetBEUI. Make sure they're both in the same Workgroup, and they should then be able to browse each other nicely. Since this is a programming forum, some folks might not take kindly to this sort of stuff - I don't know, but I'm new here (sorta). Feel free to email me if you continue to have a problem.

Make sure you've got both machines using the same workgroup name. Also make sure you have the NetBEUI(or is it NetBIOS?) protocol installed for your ethernet card. I've often found it necessary to add this since Windoze doesn't seem to install it by default. Josh Knox that-guy.net
